Most of the time a tree looses its leafs this time of the year it is either old leafs that naturally sheds when time is up or not enough light. A picture could help to see the problem better.

What kind of kumquat is it. I have had 6 seed grown Meiwa kumquats and 2 seed grown Fukushu kumquats and a grafted Meiwa. Both seed grown Fukushu kumquat trees have leaves over 2 years old and all of my Meiwa kumquat trees from seed and grafted loose their leaves within 6 months.

It is difficult to grow but worth growing. I am still learning. The Fukushu is very easy to grow.

Wondering how the taste differs in meiwa and fuskushu?

poncitrusguy. I have a Meiwa acquired in about June/July. What difficulties should I prepare to overcome? It is somewhat lanky and sparse now, I got it on clearance.

They grow so slow that it can take years to bounce back from a bad insect infestation. They seem to loose leaves easily.

I have not eaten a fukushu yet.
