Change the oval mirror you hate to an oval mirror you love.

Paint the walls blue if you want to repaint.

Change the artwork to something more dramatic, larger and colorful.

Similarly, you have a cove backsplash (which can't be removed), so I'm not sure I'd worry about figuring out the right amount of tile. Any buyer will either be ok with what's there or be planning to replace the top, leaving the backsplash in need of replacement.

Dark vanity seems good, lighter paint (with less pink -- take tones from shower tile), and a simple updated ceiling light all seem key. Since you have vanity lighting, I'd keep the ceiling light simple, probably flushmount. I can't read the intended style of this room easily, but I think you could push it more contemporary or more traditional with your choices, so here are a few different options of what I was thinking:

I included some bronze fixtures here, but I think you might do best to keep it consistent, especially with two light fixtures in close proximity...

We can do a backsplash and maybe a border strip of glass tile with black incorporated to tie in with vanity.

If I were moving, then I would just declutter, paint, change artwork, change cabinet hardware and hang some nice towels. Relatively inexpensive. Good luck!

I don't think you'll get a "spa" feeling with the tiles and fixtures you have now, but you have some room to update the bathroom without changing those. If you're seriously considering moving soon, don't put too much into that's not easily changed (ie don't tile anything). Paint the walls a lighter color, and be sure to test it out in your room; your lighting will definitely affect how it looks. Go with something pale and neutral. I'd leave the vanity cabinet alone, or change the hardware. The lighting over the mirror isn't terrible, so I'd leave it. Change the mirror to something you like better. Go with a simple ceiling fixture. I'd do something like this:

Change the artwork and get rid of the shelf over the toilet, especially if you aren't going to use it. Do something fun/quirky or more modern for artwork; you can probably go 2 or 3 prints stacked vertically over the toilet with those high ceilings.

If you're aren't going to move, or at least not very soon, I'd also replace the vanity top. Get a granite countertop and add a tile backsplash. I'd go with a color that works with the existing tile (either a neutral, metallic accents, or a blue or green) in an interesting shape like an arabesque, or a mosaic. Something like this could work:

Try wallpaper. That will help make the space feel a bit brighter. Also why not a new mirror and light as well?

Love your floor tile and shower tile. Yes, keep those!

Here's what I'd do...

1) Granite counter top w/ under mount sink, new backsplash.

2) New mirror, long and skinny. Maybe a mirrored frame....

3) New lights. The one in the ceiling should be low profile or maybe a heat lamp combo and look industrial.

The faux marble counter is dated, and there is too much on the walls. Simplicity is the way to go. To solve the dark issue, white semi-gloss paint will bounce light and feel bright. I would have a remnant piece of granite (which goes with the existing tile) cut to replace the counter and backsplash. Put in an undermount sink. Replace the strange hanging fixture with something less funky. I can't tell if the shower door is colored glass or if the tile or walks make it look tinted. If you have some money left, I would replace the shower door and panel with frameless glass with a larger door and smaller side panel.

Just a comment. Why do people feel like they must display toilet paper and a toilet brush? I see these in posts quite often. Keep them in a closet people!

A key “staging” goal, is to make home look well kept. That means replace the countertop. It looks bad and sends wrong message. New, inexpensive lighting very important and new light blue green paint would go a long way to freshening things up. Use eggshell finish with paint for ease in cleaning. Add new fluffy towels.

Just purchased a pretty semi-flush mount center light fixture, but unfortunately, it's beauty gets lost in the high ceiling, any suggestions for a pendant which would hang a little lower.
