Baby nursery setup

I'm currently 6 months and expecting a baby boy. We have several items for his nursery , but I'm stuck on the arrangement. There aren't any similar layouts that work for the room. Help!! I have a crib, dresser with changing station on top, and a glider chair so far. I did my best to ith the image

The room is 12x13

That's what I thought as well, but my husband says the chair would be across the room lol

Are those lines on the right window?

    Yes, there's a window there!

But you want to be able to walk by and look straight in. Once you do that, the rest of the arrangement is going to fall into place.

So would u suggest the crib on the wall with the closet door? My husband is going to put together the crib so that I can visualize everything better!

I just wanted to say congratulations!

And (I had four) I wouldn't want to see the crib from the door, I would get one of those camera things now (didn't have the in the stone age when I had my kids). I'll tell you why. As soon as that baby sees you, he will start to cry. At least mine did.

I might have the crib around the corner from the door, but sticking out into the room...then if I could see feet wiggling, I would walk on by.

I wouldn't put it on the window wall. I don't know where you live, but some houses you can feel the cold on outside walls.

Just a thought or two. And congrats again!

Never thought about it that way!! I'm in Texas!! The wall with window borders my husbands man cave up until right before the window. Maybe the wall right next to the door. I know it's going to take him forever to put the crib together today due to the Astros playing!

I'm with you pennydesign, put crib on a inside wall if you live in a cold climate. Yes, no mater how well a house is insulated the outer walls still gets cold. And I'm with her on putting the crib were the baby can't see out the door.

    So exciting!!

Center the crib on the short wall between door and window wall. It should be far enough from the wall to eliminate drafts/coldness. I agree that you want to be able to see in as you walk past. I used to lay a blanket over a third of the crib to create a curtain-tent for my babies when and if they started taking notice of my movements. Good cold barrier too but leaves plenty of ventilation.

Dresser centered on the wall to the left as you walk in, for ease of access when diapering mid-day and putting away laundry.

Glider wherever it fits at that point, nice by the window if you don't mind slightly blocking the closet door.

Now all you need is a small table for a lamp, glass of water, breast pads and/or bottle and you're set!

I would put crib on wall to right of door, changing table straight ahead, and chair on the window wall, closer to the crib.

I can visualize that setup! I think I will even have room to place the chair and not block the closet at all. Thank you!

    I'm in Texas too...

In that case, are your vents in the ceiling like mine? In my bedroom, I'm on the side of the room with the vents. Brrr.

Not to give you all sorts of unsolicited advice, I'm sure this kind of thing has occurred to you :)

Yes, my vents are in the ceiling! I definitely know what you mean!! In the room for the nursery the vent is centered right next to the left wall.

I would put it on the hall wall. If you come in and baby is sleeping you will be out of his vision. If he is sleeping and you want to peek in you will be unobserved. And he will see the whole room and the sunshine in the window. Oh and congrats! A new baby is so sweet and precious...enjoy every minute as it is so exciting that first year of daily changes.

I just set up my nursery and then realized that now safe sleep guidelines indicate baby in room with the parents for the first six months! So now I have a halo bassinest in the master bedroom. Point being that I wouldn’t worry too much about having the glider near the crib.

In fact another safe sleep guideline is that they don’t really want you doing night feeds in recliners/gliders or on the couch any more because the risk of baby falling and suffocating when parent inevitably falls asleep from sleep deprivation at 3am is too great. So now they advise night feeds in grown up bed on a firm surface with no pillows and blankets down to parents’ waist (if parent hasn’t been drinking/intoxicated).

I trusted my maternal instincts... :)

Hope you two moms-to-be are doing well and nesting all over the place... :)

I put the crib where little one cannot reach anything, and it is away from the vent. In our house, that left only two spots. The only other piece of furniture in this is a book shelf, which only fits in one of the two possible crib spots, so arrangement was pretty easy!
