grout break off at countertop

We have brand new build house. At counter top tile meet bits of grout are breaking out. Is this normal? should it have been sealed with silicon or something?

There should NOT be grout in the join between the countertops and the tile. It should be grout color matched caulk.

The grout should be replaced by color matched caulk where the backsplash meets the counter. If your home is still under warranty, have the builder fix that. Otherwise it’s very easy to do yourself.

All the corner joints and the joint along the counter should have been sealed with matching caulk so they can move a bit without cracking and falling out.
