Early last Saturday morning the temps got down to 34F which is below my stated danger zone of 36F for medium sized plants and well below the threshold for smalls (in my climate Bigs are still just fine to at or near freezing). I have some large tarps which can be used to cover the plants when we have a rare cold snap this early in autumn but there were some pretty strong winds so it probably would have caused more physical damage battering the tips and branches.

I placed many of the smalls and newly rooted plants under cover and left others laying down on their sides and then waited to see what would happen. During the evening the cloud cover blew away and I thought...uh oh. I went and grabbed some more smalls and youngsters and placed them under cover. Then at about 11pm the wind began to die down and I thought...uh oh. I got my gear and covered up some others. I went out there just before 6am and the anti freeze lock outs on the pool pumps kicked on and I thought...uh oh. Soon after my thermometer started to go up by a few tenths of a degree and the sun began to brighten the horizon.

End Result are just some leaves with minor frost damage. This time of year the leaves are pretty well done anyways so no harm no foul. All the branch tips are green and clean.

Here is a medium sized JJ Delightful with some light frost damage to leaves only. The wind actually sheared off an inflo with about 6 seed pods on it. oh well.

Here is a Bud G's My Valentine. It was right next to Delightful so this must have been the cold spot in the Plumeria Grove.

Also in the area was a JJ Gina, JJ Xanadu, Cindy Schmidt Orange, and a U of HI Orange. All are small to medium sized plants. Interesting how this spot had cold air sitting on it. No Bigs even have the slightest leaf damage.
