A very large bright piece of art or a mirror come to mind.

I agree, a large mirror that reflects the natural sunlight back into that space.

Perhaps a stretched piece of cool fabric.

Be aware that whatever you put there may get faded by the sun with those big windows.

I think a mirror is a good suggestion - but seems as if it would have to be quite large to cover the lumps and look proportional to the table.

Just suggesting: a tall plant where the stool sits - take advantage of the light and provide a vertical element. Maybe a shorter plant for low light or another vertical element on the left - not the same height - probably shorter.

Besides a mirror - you could use fabric stretched over a frame (easy to do yourself) or find an interesting and/or textured wall paper and do the whole wall or just part of it.

It could be barnwood or dark metal, though barnwood/barnwood effect wood would be lighter and cheaper, and if you're handy you could even make something similar, with or without an old window or two.
