Bleaching grout won't change its base color, only remove dirt. There are some products on the market to essentially paint grout, but I have no idea how well the work (actually I'm pretty skeptical). Regrouting isn't difficult to do yourself, but tedious!

Gee, I'd get a grout removing tool and re do it yourself. It's not terribly hard to grout.

Do you know what type of grout was used? Poly or other? There is a product at the big box stores named, "grout renew". I know somebody that used it and was happy. Not something I would do and I'm sure with this product, "grout renew" you could not go from a very dark to a super light.

I believe the grout renew can't be used on a poly grout. You may want to look in to it if you are brave enough and know your grout is not a poly mix. It's made by Polyblend who also makes grout. If you are going to take it out if you can't lighten it then it might be worth the try if you know the type of grout that was used. Otherwise, remove it and re-do it.

I believe Home Depot (or is it Lowe's?) sells grout paint, and a small roller item that makes it handy to apply. I read great reviews on it and intend to lighten our grout in the foyer. It also acts as a sealant.

The grout colorant/paint is simply a paint with a sheen. If you don't want a sheen on your grout, don't use it.

Cinar Interiors, Inc., Thank you for your input. So are you saying the colorant is simply a semi-gloss or gloss paint? That would make sense as those are more water resistant than a satin, eg-shell, or flat. So, are you saying just any paint would work on grout?

I seem to remember years ago my Mom painstakingly painting her 1" square tile flooring with a toothbrush and thinned paint. It lasted a couple years (each time) as I recall. She just wiped the tiles as she painted with a toothbrush.

binba9 .binba, ^^ Sounds like you've got an answer there. Perhaps try some paint in a small, inconspicuous area, allow it to dry, and see how your grout takes it and what you think. Be sure to remove excess paint from your tile with a damp cloth as you go.

As I mentioned way above in this thread, please make sure if you try the Poly blend paint and you have epoxy grout or similar that it will work!
