Showing off my new phal's!

I've added 2 more phal's to my budding orchid collection! It is now a family of 5 phals. I've only seen phal's around so far but once I see other types that capture my heart, I'll definitely be adding some new types!

I went around sniffing the minis for so long the shop owner kept telling me I take too long. But it was worth it because this mini phal has a light fragrance of soap! It's a refreshing soapy smell. I don't like soapy smells unfortunately but I'm happy to have finally found a scent in a NOID phal

Saw this in IKEA and I couldn't leave it behind. I was surprised to see they still had a few more of this pattern and color left. In bluer light the pink edges and lip look more purple. I'm going to look around some shops today for some orchid window shopping. For the sake of my wallet I hope I don't end up bringing home more phals!

This is called a peloric feature and refers to the fact that in orchids the lip is a modified petal. Sometimes a mutation occurs and the lip appears with the shape & colour of the petal.

If the you are lucky, the mutation is a "plus" feature and adds to the beauty and appeal of the flowers, but other times it is a "Minus" feature and detracts from the beauty and appeal of the bloom.

Beautiful! There is a type of phal that has a big lip and they look very beautiful too, I have got some in the market. This is one of them.

Maritza you have a good eye. That is a beautiful color and pattern. The dark purple on the wings next to the column looks like a mustache! I also love that the spots form a back to back crescent moon shape on the two petals. Really pretty even if it didn't have the big lip mutation!

I understood that it was a hybridization. Here they are called Big Lipped, I look for them in the markets and I have several. This has a nice contrast between the petals and the lip.

Thanks Tommyr_gw, my minis this year are only taking out many aerial roots and leaves but varas not yet.

You picked some really lovely ones Maritza. I love the mustaches they all have and the light pink veins on that white one! It's gorgeous. I don't need to spend anymore on phal's but your photos are tempting me
