We know it was never lacquered. We built the house and it was a plain fiberglass door with a coat of primer on it for years. Then we finally decided on a color (which I hate now) so we cleaned it, put another coat of primer on it and painted it green. I thought it had been painted originally but it had not. The bubbled part comes off easily but the door would probably be better sanded. The fiberglass has a fake wood grain texture to it and I was afraid that sanding would ruin that surface. I will do some more research locally at Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore. Thanks for all the great advice...this is why I love Houzz.com! :)
