Well, there you go, I'd stick with fabric to keep the tropical reference alive. I very much like the one you have now - by keeping the color close to the carpet's, having a larger piece won't seem to eat up space, or draw attention away from the surrounding views. Lovely room!

Looks like a coffee table is needed in front of the couches. The chairs have a table on which to place a drink or whatever. I would try adding a table, moving the couches and chairs closer together and putting a long shelf just under the couch windows for plants, sculpture, colored glass objects and/or some books.

Looking at the chairs which are upholstered to the floor and no legs and your sofa also to the floor with no legs adding another rather large piece like an ottoman upholstered to the floor just looks really heavy in this room. I know you asked about what fabric to put on an ottoman, but I think an ottoman is not working in this situation. I would add a really nice coffee table over by your sofa because it appears that there is no where for people to put drinks etc. on, plus it gives you a chance to introduce some wood and something with legs. All your floor space is being eaten up by pieces of upholstered furniture to the floor and you might want to rethink the ottoman idea.

I agree with Mark, but if you have your heart set on an ottoman at least pick an ottoman that has legs on it, that way it doesn't look so heavy visually.

Relooked - leave couches and chairs where they are. Remove ottoman. Buy a coffee table-bench, with legs, for in front of couches. Find one with top that flips over for drinks. Maybe cover whole thing with stripe or smaller pattern material (chair colors). If top doesn't flip, have a tray that can sit on top of bench for drinks for those people sitting on couch. Pull table between chairs forward a bit. bring in pillows or accents the colors of the darker stone of the fireplace. Love the rooms, windows, color, chairs, drapes, shades. Good job!

I understand everyone looking at a sofa and expecting to see a coffee table, but am feeling rather badly for knipp, as this room is steps away from both the dining table and kitchen. Might we allow knipp the civilized attitude of deeming just one public space free of communal ingestion? :)

Unless this room was designed to just walk by and look at then it is going to be used to sit in and have beverages and food etc. and if there is no place to put anything on, how practical is that? Even a small tray on this particular ottoman is useless because it only helps those that are sitting in the chairs that already have a table in between them. What about the people who choose to sit on the sofa where do they put their drinks etc. This room is not big enought to have an ottoman and a coffe table. It will be like walking through a maze around everything. I think the room is lovely but if it's not able to be used as it was intended to be used then it it's just a wasted space and a failure in design.

Love the room. Get a round coffee table 36" place in front of sectional. Match wood to dining table. Move table between chairs up.

This is a sitting room, which suggests that there is also a living room, and my point refers to an older school of thought, not to this particular ottoman (which is borrowed from another space.). I am suggesting that you are accurate in your assumption that both will not fit, but also that priority need not always be given to eating and drinking in every room of the house. When the request has been specific, we might do the kindness of acknowledging the more formal aspect that results, rather than throwing the idea under the bus as inferior design. It is not.

When designing a room I always choose furniture both for it's aesthetic appeal and functionality. To me functionality should be given as much attention, if not even more so. After all the main purpose of furniture is to support your activities and needs and not vice versa. A successful room to me will have both aesthetic and functionality. That is how I design a room and always will. You have an opinion that you are entitled to and you do not need to critique my way of design. I choose to give people on Houzz with design problems my advice freely and if I help them in any way then that is my goal. I do not come on here to critique other designers nor should you.

I am in agreement with your points,andrewdesigninc, and perhaps that was not clear; they were not the reference point for my comments. My discomfort was with thread growth based on assumed needs, and not what the OP had expressed as an actual need. (This was not your initial address, which took her request into consideration with politeness.) I believe our best advice is based on our best knowledge, and am sure you do, as well. Disagreement should never be construed as critique, and I apologize for any confusion.

Well it's obvious that andrewdesigninc and studio 10001 like the rest of us are very passionate about what we love to do. The great thing about Houzz is we all get a chance to help those that want and need our advice and this is so helpful to so many people. It's great to have different suggestions and advice and varried opinions because through all of this the homeowner can sift through and take and leave what they want and if anything that we have said helps to achieve their goal in getting their room the way they want then we have all done a great job. It is Benjamin Moore "Cork" I have it throughout kitchen and family room.

I can't picture a round table working in this space. It would only work if the chairs and couch could share it. Even then, because of its shape, some sets would be too far to away to reach the table to set a glass on it. Perhaps two small tables would work by the couch, if a rectangle isn't wanted.
