I like to add more candles to light during the evenings. It brings a warmth to the room.

More candles or use lights, more blankets, baking to scent house

A few things I pull out of storage: throw blankets for living room and family room, a "sheepskin" that I throw on a leather chair (which my dog has taken over), and from mid Oct to Thanksgiving I have several glass pumpkins as well as real pumpkins/gourds on display. After Thanksgiving, I'll replace those with Christmas greenery and pine cones...but no real Christmas decorating until early December.

yes, quilts in the TV room. cozy slippers. sunlight lamp in the bathroom in the dark mornings!! :)

All the warm colors in my Thanksgiving decor along with the roaring fire this past weekend did it for us. Christmas is coming and the bright lights and colors are soo distracting I can't say I notice the inside is coolish. January--well all the blue/white and snowmen do give me a chill but then just more reason to stoke the fire!!

I have all my Fall decor out, throws, candles and as soon as I get home, which is 6pm ish, however still dark, I turn on my soft mood light and have a roaring fire!

Good call on the slippers. And I guess candles are the closest I'll be getting to a fireplace so I'll be sure to load up on those, maybe something pine/forest scented. Now I just need a big lap dog.

i've never had winter blues.... autumn is my favorite season, winter my second favorite.. but i definitely add a lot more layers of texture and deeper colors with throws and pillows. i take my dining room drapes down in summer, just have sheers on, so those drapes have just gone back up also.

put a couple lights on timers so they are on to welcome you, if you are coming home in the evening in the dark now. at least you wont have to fumble around when you enter a room without overhead lights.

Throw on the fleece sheets, heavy comforters and faux fur throws on the beds. Put bathroom rugs on the cold tile bathroom floors. Put up heavy lined drapes. cover the decorative pillows with faux fur cases. Put the Alpaca rug in front of the fireplace. Drag the snowblower and shovels from the shed to the garage and wait for spring.

This will be an interesting winter for us as we painted the whole interior of our house BM Oxford White, covering the former owner's taupe walls and cream trim throughout, and replaced off-white cotton curtains with natural white cotton. We also tore up beige carpet throughout the house and replaced it with natural white oak hardwood. We LOVE the changes, but live on the ocean, and haven't yet gone through a winter with the cooler colour scheme. Like others, I think I will switch out the current throw cushions (which are mainly blues) with something richer, and drape a couple of throws over the sofas. I like the idea of more candles, too. We do have a fireplace (and a dog to lie in front of it, along with three cats), so that should help with the cozy factor!

Sueb20, that's EXACTLY what my winter is going to me missing! Love it.

And I really like the idea of darker autumn color drapes. I've got a large sliding door that leads out to the deck so I might go with deep red/maroon curtains which will also match with some of the colors in the living room's area rug

We have a rug that goes into storage in the summer. I also change the table settings and add warm blankets to the backs of the sofas. I also change the bedding and curtains from summer to winter. And we have a fire almost every night.

I think I might have to make a stop and pick up some more blankets and comforters too
