Eliminate or Minimize Musty Smell in Silverware Chest

I have a chest (15" x 6" x 11") that holds a set of silverware. It's felt lined and has been closed for years, doing a great job of preventing tarnishing. Now I'm getting ready to sell the set but the inside has a musty smell. I'd love some ideas to eliminate or minimize this.

I would remove the silverware, vacuum the felt lining and leave it open to the air and sunshine for a while.

take out the silver and crumple a bunch of black and white newspaper and stuff it as full as you can get it. Let it sit for a couple of days and replace with more newspaper; it should eliminate the smell.

Is the silver sterling or plate? sometimes plated ware can get an "odor" where the plating is worn in spots and that may be what you are smelling.The fix is the same....but wash the silver before you put it back.
