My Seed Starting Adventure
About $15 from Thailand, they arrived today!
Doubt most of these will come true, but it will be interesting to see in the next few years what might become. I am in Zone 9B/A and will hopefully put them out come Spring here. This is what came:
They were very dry and brittle, so I tried to handle with care. Had them all on the tray with paper towel & went to get the spray bottle & came back to find my little helper hadn't helped! They were all over the floor!

I sprayed the uncovered layer first with a very very weak solution of 10-50-10. I like that they are all pretty much different, so there may be some varieties.
All covered and saturated, they are way up high where the kitty can't help for now. Today is Thursday & I will keep them moist until Monday when I am off from work and can put them in the Ferry Morris seed starting trays I bought.
Any suggestions on starting mixture would be helpful. I am thinking spaghnum moss, perlite & vermiculite. Not exactly sure where to put them safe from my little helper once planted, but I'll manage...
Update hopefully Monday.

No heat mat. (I'm using the heating pad for my back!) There's one in the attic that I will get down & use though.) Paper towels were dry, so they got spritzed again & will have to check after work tonight.
Found some more on the floor today that I missed picking up yesterday.
Any ideas for sprouting these differently?

And now on to the actual planting of the seeds. Here's the mix I started with:
Which ended up looking like this:
Filled the tray & watered it down.
Seeds were soaked for 3 days with my weak solution of 10-50-10 and planted with just the tips sticking out.
The tray only holds 72, so I had extras. What to do?!?!?
I think the cupcakes are stale by now.
I put 3 seeds in each, just because I didn't want to start a new 72 tray half filled. I put these where my little helper won't disturb them, near a window facing north, and they will get filtered sun for now until they sprout. In the meantime, I will be searching for heat mats and lights.

Nov. 22nd.
Tonight! Dec. 17th! Not same cat. I guess he figured this was safer after I re-started the clothes dryer and heard a couple of thumps. He likes it warm!
Squished a few!
Shoved the broken pieces back in dirt. Note 3 pieces in one! Maybe it will grow as one?
I hope they survive my cats! LOL
