Plug in sconces

Plug in sconces have been on my radar to use as bedside or sofa lighting. The manufacturer recommends a 29 watt halogen which is equal to a 40 watt incandescent. Does that seem bright enough? If you have opted for plug in sconces, do you have any hints/regrets? These are from Lamps Plus.

i use plug in sconces in my master as bedside lights, and in my sunroom on both sides of the loveseat. I like their use in both these rooms.

The library light sconces you posted are very pretty, but a couple of things to consider.

I am not a fan of halogen lights and do not use them. They get very hot in my experience which I acknowledge is limited. I would be concerned with the metal shade and the halogen bulb you would not be able to redirect the light after it was on a few seconds.

I have library lights in my kitchen as task lighting, the hinges/pivot points to set the lights into position are finicky. They tend to slip from their positions at first. I feel like I am holding my breath when I move until I know they will hold the position. They are fine in my use because I very rarely have to reposition them. Next to my bed they might prove to be more annoying. I would probably always be fixing the position of my husbands to be symmetrical with mine then he would change it when he reads, then I would change it back again.

The lights I have in my bedroom have fewer adjustment points, are easy to move, and dont slip once positioned. That's important to me.

I have a hinged plug-in sconce from Schoolhouse Electric and I also find the hinges to be tricky. Fortunately it's in a guest room that's rarely used, but I was still disappointed that the hinges don't "hold" as well as they should.

I have had halogen lights over the bed and would not have them again. Too hot and harsh. 40 watts is pretty dim if you want to read in bed. I like the looks of the one you pictured but I think I'd keep looking.

Here is what we have been using at our last 2 homes and is going with us on our current move. Plenty of light and they have a diffuser on the bottom so the light is not harsh but bright with 100 watt ( orLED equivalent).

I don't have library lights(have other sconces though)..I do have a task table lamp that is designed for someone to read, and I find it extremely useful. So no feedback on plug ins unfortunately ..but 40 watt is too dim to read comfortably, that's for sure. You need much brighter lamp. 60 minimum I'd say. 40 won't cut it for reading. ambience, mood, just to see things in a dark room-yes.

Not a fan of halogen either..well I'm sure it's very personal but they hurt my eyes..tried them with floor light(that can also be directed for reading etc)..couldn't stand it. was bright; but very unpleasant somehow..

I like the idea of white shades and diffusers..and yes, metal gets very hot so is very pretty but something to consider..my task lamp is vintage tole one..after ten min of reading , I learned not to touch the shade..only the body itself..))
