Painted floor color that won't show dirt

I am searching for a neutral gray or brown floor paint color for an 1865 Cape Cod Vacation Rental dining and living room. Both have room sized rugs, but the edges get high traffic.

A few years ago, I painted it PFC-27 Light Rattan (Behr) which was too light. It looked good but showed dirt. Then I painted it a shade darker, which is still too light. I need advice. Walls are 1/2 linen white 1/2 decorator white. The living room chairs are medium beige with a not quite royal blue sofa. I will buy a new rug, so that color is not an issue.

This dining room rug has dark brown edges.

(now a blue sofa that blends with blue in print and now white walls) I show this picture to show the color of the chairs in the room.

Why not colour-match the sandy taupe from the rug? If that blends too much with your chair you could go a shade darker but beware of too dark, which also shows everything.

Great place. What type dirt do you get? Is it mostly sand? You will never get rid of dirt with a paint color. Just don't go too dark. Perhaps more rugs inside and out that catch the dirt before it comes into the house. If sand is an issue, put water buckets outside so people wash their feet off before entering. Keep a large basket of slip on slippers for people to use inside. Paint the floors to go with the décor.

Lindsey, Any specific color suggestions? I did not mention that am 18 hours away from the house and will be unable to be there in person to make a match. I need to pick a color now for the painter. Everdebz, I just want aa good color that shows the least amount of dirt. Flo Mangan, Yes, sand, but the dining room is in the center of the house and connects to all the other rooms. Very high general traffic. Wish I could ask renters to take off their shoes, but cannot.

Sorry, I don't have a specific colour I can offer.

Anything will show some degree of dirt though...

Here is a palette. SW Sea Salt is in this group. Medium deep color but goes with anything. I would stay away from grays. Would look too much like porch flooring color. Good luck. Very hard to do from so far away. Anyone there who could do a couple samples for you? That or hire a local designer to help you.

I would also test ready makes to see how far you sink into seat. Sitting too low in booths is very uncomfortable.

Have your painter stop by the rental house and scoop up some dirt from the yard. They can take some photos of the dirt with a few close colors from the fan deck. Paint the floors the color of the dirt.

Maybe hit the current color with a brown wash to distress it? It'll make it look more rustic and camouflage the dirt.
