Need washing machine recommendations

My washing machine just died. Any recommendations for good, mid-priced washers? I still have a full water washing machine and am real hesitant with all these low water usage machines. I want a top loader. Thanks in advance!

Another vote for SQ. I'm not sure how long these machines will be around as they are now.

There is a laundry forum here too.

Thank you! I checked and there is a local place that deals with Speed Queen and I will head there tomorrow. I really want full water and full agitation. :)

New Speed Queen owner here, only about three months but absolutely love it!

If my dryer ever dies, I'll be replacing that also with a S-Q :)

New Speed Queen on the way! When we went in to order it the first thing the salesman said is "I can't keep these in stock". He also then told me beginning in January 2018 that SQ is having to modify the way they are made due to government regulations (thanks for heads up on this Wekick!!).

I got my SQ a year ago next week, and it's been great. You'll be happy!

What speed queens do you all have? I had never heard of these before but recently am seeing people keep comment about them!

They only have three residential models, two of them with electronic controls and one with knobs. I wanted and got the old fashioned kind with knobs. I have only had it a week and couldn't be happier! Full tub of water and good old fashioned agitation. :)

I have an LG front loader. I was hesitant about the low water level, and possible mold in front loaders. We run at least one load a day and often more. I don't use the steam option often, but the first thing I washed was a pair of hunting pants with caked on mud. Came out clean. You can add items after the cycle starts. Keep the door ajar to let it air out. I have not had any problem with odor. LG has a little drain hose that you drain occasionally. Just pulls out from behind a little door. Drain maybe 1/4 cup. If I have a really dirty load (muddy dog towels) I drain it after that load and can see the water is somewhat dirty. Maybe drain water causes odor in brands without the drain hose. I don't think I have ever written a review for an appliance before, but I love my LG so much I wanted to let you know. My daughter will soon replace hers with same. Oh and 15 minute wash is fine for most loads. Steam dryer doesn't really get wrinkles out, but used it to freshen up child's stuffed animals.

Speed Queen. I've bought three at this point. I got the one with the basic manual control knobs. There is very little that can go wrong with this machine. It's really quiet, too. One for my aunt, one for me and one for my rental unit. They are all going strong.

Speed Queen here too! I wanted a basic, just do the job washer.

Now I wish I could find a dishwasher and 40" range made like a Speed Queen!

lisadlu16, if you are set on a top-loader, it's my understanding Bosch makes a top loader that spins as fast as the front loaders - energy efficient when drying clothes. I've read some good reviews on the Bosch's and our appliance guy strongly recommended it - he and his wife have one. Sorry, I don't know the model number but it'd be an HE top loader.

We've gotten rid of our top load as I wanted a FL for placing a folding table on top at some point, so went with LG.. Shirlsgirl - thank you for the glowing review. I did notice the hose drain at the front and felt it a good option - I think most (when they have them) are located in the back, which is not at all easily accessible and therefore rarely used.

I am not aware that Bosch makes a top loader. There is not one in the US. Do they make one in Canada? I wonder if your appliance person was referring to the Fisher and Paykel top loader? It gets really good reviews.

    Good luck!

No, he was referring to the newest Bosch top loader. Said they (he and his wife) just bought one. I can't get Bosch's website to load now and it's only referring to the compacts, and I can't find it on any other website. Perhaps he was talking about the compact - which doesn't fit, because I didn't want a compact. My error if so, and I apologize.

    2ManyDiversions,

No need to apologize, I was not able to find the information so I wanted to clarify. I don’t see anything from their EU websites either, wonder what the repair person was referring to.

Good luck on your washer search.

Thank you homepro01, but I don't like giving misinformation : - ) I'd call our appliance guy for clarification, but he's on vacation now. He's been spot-on with everything from the newer model refrigerators to newer model ranges, but anyone can make mistakes, so I/he could be wrong. I'll try to remember to contact him regarding the Bosch top load HE when he gets back.

Well, it is a curious thing. Apparently, Bosch-USA claims to be selling toploaders. The Bosch USA website has a page touting it's toploaders. But when you scroll scroll down the page, you find only compact front-load models. Here is the link. Note: you have to click on one of the filter buttons on the right to have models displayed. (Try selecting "newest").

I noticed that jwvideo. I think the best way to find out if they have a new full size HE top loader would be to call them, so if the OP (or anyone else) decides this might be of interest, that'd be my recommendation.

Ok, talked to my appliance guy finally - he was mistaken about the Bosch, and he said he meant to say the top load Fisher Paykel, and it spins at 1,100 RPM for 6 minutes which gets the clothes very dry. Here's a link he gave me comparing it to SQ with model numbers.

    2ManyDiversions,

I was right:-) Great for the confirmation. The F&P owners seem to like the machines quite a lot. With the purchase of F&P by Haier about 3 years ago or longer, there was some quality concerns but I don't think that has come to fruition.

Weird about the listing of top loaders on the Bosch website but it only displays Front Loaders.

    Good luck in your search.

Fisher & Paykel dates to the mid 1990s on the US market, longer than that in NZ and Aus. I have a 1999 model washer, only repair for the duration is replacement of the pump. I can't say if the latest production holds to that but there hasn't much change in the mechanical design on the agitator models (WashSmart is the current agitator offering vs. the two AquaSmart models which are HE-impeller machines). F&P dryers on the U.S. market are sourced from GE to F&P's feature specifications.
