I don't see a picture attached to your question. We usually have an area rug either sit in front of the legs or we order a custom area rug that allows all of the furniture to sit on the area rug. I hope these examples help some without seeing the photo.

The sofa/loveseat looks very alone on the wall. What is on the other wall parallel to the small sofa? If there is room, I would move it there and make a tighter seating arrangement and keep both sofas front legs on the rug. Any chance you might be able to pull the sofas away from the wall? I would add side tables and lamps.

I would try this before settling on a coffee table.

The other wall is not an option. There is a door in from the back porch and we will plan to knock the wall out to open up the kitchen. We also cannot pull the couches closer together because we need room to walk through. I know this room would've looked better with two chairs where the smaller couch is but we wanted more seating so now I'm trying to make it work.

Yes you can move the smaller sofa so that it and the larger sofa make an "L". And then you have room to walk behind the sofa rather than in front of it and whoever may be sitting on the sofa. I did this in a former house and it worked out just fine.

Pull the smaller sofa forward so that the front legs are on the rug. Then you should have a walkway behind that smaller sofa to walk behind.
