OMG! I have the exact same color tile and brown trim. But you have that fabulous art deco glass window that tells you exactly which style direction to go in. In fact, the tile looks art deco too. You only need a couple of things to bring it all together into one sensational look. The centerpiece should be the shower curtain and I've seen many beauties with an art deco feel and look for under $50 and in browns that would look great. The walls I would paint a shade of silver white gray that goes with the brown and peach because that's was a big color combination in the 1908-1935 when art deco was popular. Sure, it's a big change and a big statement but what a treat for your guests.

I think you should go ahead and spend the $250 now and then do a full gut job in the 2-3 years(they go quick). Is this the weekend - or sometime in the future?

I have tried to find a picture with no success. The pic was originally posted by a contractor. The result of the navy cabinets was a fresh more modern look than whit or wood. Good luck with your quick remodel. I really love the tile color. You can then use navy shower curtain and towels, I think it would be beautiful.

You could hold anything navy up against the peach to give you an idea if the contrast without having to buy it do something to get a feel for the color combination. Sometimes it is only “simple” that is really needed.

I took your suggestion and ran with it. I found this palette that I really like. The Peach and salmon tones are pretty close to my bathroom tile and accent tile. If I do this, I'm trying to figure out what I would paint blue and what I would paint grey. Would I do blue walls with a grey vanity or gray walls with a blue vanity?

Very cute bathroom! I would only change out the shower curtain, window curtain. And get a cute bathroom rug. Get a cute tray for a soap dispenser and lotion (Target) find a wooden stool or bench to go under the area where the vinegar is. Perhaps a potted flower or plant and you are good to go.

Also you can use Grout Renew if you want to change the color.

I like keeping bathrooms simple and free of knick-knacks, except for a small plant or vase of flowers on a tiny table under the window. Instead of a rug, what about a wooden mat (bamboo)? It won't hold the dampness like a rug and that means less mold and mildew smells. And if the wood matt is raised an inch or two off the floor with slats instead of a solid top, that's even better for ventilation and drying out. And it feels divine on your bare feet. And it looks like your small window inside the glass blocks is frosted so it's private and you don't need curtains. But if you do, try plastic (easily cleaned) blinds for that tiny inset window in a gray or tan or navy, whichever color you choose to contrast with the peach.

Repeating other ideas to give my vote- floor to ceiling shower curtain, bath mat, towels. To "tone down" the color of the tile, you basically need to use that color on the walls or something else substantial, and darker. So dark tan/peach in order to "steal" the peach from the tile.

Joanna, I think the vanity should be darker than the walls to help ground the room. Thus, I would paint the vanity blue. But I am not totally sure I like that grey for the walls. I wish one of our color experts would chime in.

lol Thanks shirlpp. I have to wait on the tiles. I'm planning a full reno in 2-3 yrs. The color does seem overwhelming, especially since there isn't much color there now.. I was also thinking about wallpaper, but IDK. It seems like it would be a pain to put up (and then take down if I didn't like it).

Dark blue works with peach. If it were my bath, I would paint the vanity a blue like the insp pic above and the walls above the tile white and then go with white accessories (towels and curtain) - so they look very soft, luscious and spa like. Just my two cents :)

^PS I would also change out the window curtains to something hung much, higher closer to the ceiling and have those curtains either in the same blue or white. The way those curtains are hung right now don't enhance your bathroom experience :(

Ooh I like that blue color (just not the hardware color) on the cabinets. When we moved I added a bit more variation in the blues chosen for the decor palette with some greenish blues - kind of a collection of blues seen in the ocean, tropical seas, and lakes with the typical ‘June gloom’ sky in Southern California (gray). Somewhat monochromatic but the mister said do whatever* makes me happy where the house style and decor is concerned.

*(Just don’t endlessly demand his opinion on things, choose and get started on a project).

I like the dark peach walls with the navy vanity....adds a bit of drama to a small space.

Oh wow- if you're doing a "real" Reno in a few years, just paint white on the walls, and call it good!

lol @ Leslie..that's what my family keeps telling me, but I need a little change to hold me over.

I'd start by removing the curtains. They do nothing for the decor, and having just the glass block window will give a cleaner look. One of the nicest things you could do for that shower would be to ditch the curtain and install a glass door. Again, it gives a clean and sleek appearance. But I don't know how expensive that would be.

I would just go white walls and paint the vanity a warm brown. New shower curtain, towels and no window covering. The blue and gray just looks so busy and overwhelming. I would want restful.

Get the dark blue paint and do the walls and vanity in it. Very dramatic and romantic and can tide you over. Gold hardware on vanity and gold framed mirror. Go to second hand store and picked up interesting framed mirror and some rub and buff and gold it up. Super fun. New dark blue towels done. Try looking at SW 6244 Naval. Have fun with it.

Oh dear, the blue vanity does not look good at all.

For a quick fix, try a brightly patterned fabric for the window, and a very light gray for the walls.

Or you could do a splashy bold graphic black and white wallpaper (peel and stick) with black and white accents in towels, window treatment and shower curtain.

I am seeing something more sophisticated in your inspirations, but the floor reminds me of exotic places, and I pulled up this curtain to just throw in the mix. I don't know what the rest of your home looks like (i.e. are you going for a retro style to complement what you have?). Think this could be so fun with a framed mirror and global accents and navy walls. Plus one of those low wood vanities from your pictures if you could find one on the cheap.

isn't that current vanity a melamine type of material? or is it real wood? painting that bathroom 3 diff colors won't help.

what's wrong w/removing that vanity and doing a vintage wood piece with a new top? I posted some examples earlier. with a little DIY and shopping skills, you could do it for your budget. then you could just paint the walls white and bring in a nice rug and towels.

doing a diff vanity will make all the difference. Painting that current thing blue, or gray or peach, will not.

I tried to do a mock up to give you concrete examples. Find a carved frame to put around that glass block window. Paint as much as u can with a darker blue which is complimentary color to the tile. Fresh towels and some prints with white mats and thin possibly gold frame. I will post when i can upload.

Very hard to put elements into the photo but hopefully you can see concept. I would do two colors i would do just blue. A nice fluffy blue rug and new shower curtain. Have you done anything yet? If you have a Far East shop near you, you can find great carved frames and completely transform that glass block window by cleverly framing it. Good luck.

If you are working on this Thanksgiving weekend, Joanna, I noticed in a post above the "auto-correct" changed words on me too. I wanted to say, if you go with a dark blue for the walls, I would carry that on -- don't use two colors. Now Beth suggested changing out the vanity and if you did that, then that would be wood most probably so that would be OK, but if you plan to leave what is there in place, then just use one color. Least confusing to the eye. With your budget, I would caution against changing the vanity because you will need a plumber to come in a pull the plumbing to the vanity so if you can't do that yourself, then this process could eat your entire budget. If you just want "quick fix" just paint and maybe add a few new accents and fresh towels. It will be a nice fresh change and then later you can do the whole deal. Hope that helps. well gosh, mine is a quick fix too! lol. unscrewing valves and hooking up a faucet really isn't difficult. you don't need a plumber for it unless you run into troubles somewhere. everything I mentioned is DIY and in the easy to medium range. It can also be had under budget. But if you don't want to mess with it, ok. It's cool. you asked for a change for under $250 and that's what I proposed. If you'd rather paint the walls and bring in new towels and a rug, great! I would not advise to paint that vanity. save the money you'd spend on paint and use it for something else.

Thanks for your insight, Beth. I've been scouring Craigslist and other sites for a lighter wood vanity like you posted in the first picture, but no luck yet. I actually did find a quartz countertop that is amazing, but it wouldn't look right in this bathroom, so I'm going to get it for my reno in a couple of years. So far we've added a new toilet, recessed lighting, fresh white paint (although it doesn't look very white in this picture) and a new shower head and all new copper plumbing. I appreciate all of the ideas and I'm trying to soak it all up and make the best decision for us right now. We'll see how it all plays out. I'm also going to attach a pic of what the bathroom looked like before we bought the house. It's pretty much identical, which is another reason why I want to do something fun and bold with paint.

Joanna,,keep trying. CL is hit and miss. The bathroom really isn't that bad.

why don't you consider getting a new faucet (CL again!) or find a cheap on for $50 online. I actually got this one that lights up and it was 50. works great, believe it or not. That one you have w/the big round knob thing just keeps it in the 80's. changing that out would help and is easy to do.

another easy fix is a concrete overlay. you can do right on the laminate. Ardex feather finish. lot's of how to's online/Pinterest.

if you did that, then I would paint the vanity a dark gray to go w/the cement finish. You can also color the cement black or at least a dark gray.

Hi Beth! I like the second picture. Do you know if I could peel off the old laminate and add another one? If not, I like the paint option. This is the faucet we have now. The round one is from the picture before any updates.

Update w/pics This is where I'm at now. I have to order a curtain rod and I think I'm going to replace the shower curtain rod too. I am not going to replace the finishes on the towel racks and faucet or showerhead. Should I coordinate the rods to the current finishes (satin nickel) or gold? My accent color is gold (frames, urchins on wall, candle, vase). I ordered white curtains with gold shapes. Pic attached. I also need a new soap dispenser. White or gold? And I have to add pictures to our new frames. What do you think so far?

I'd stich with the matching finish for the shower curtain rod. Keep the 'installed' finishes alike. Then gold for accent pieces, including the soap dispense.

I would match the finishes with the new rods, keep them satin nickel. Then use the gold for the accessories. Could you find a white and gold soap dispenser?
