Kitchen/Dining Design Dilemma PLEASE HELP!

This is our family home. My parents would like to remodel/renew the kitchen and make a nice flowing area between kitchen, dining and sitting area.
At the moment they find the kitchen cabinets are small and don't have enough space for storage. They also find the pantry to be small and hard to reach for items at the back.
The dining area is cramped with the kitchen and there isn't much space in between.
During the day the kitchen/dining area can be very dark as not much lights enters the room.
They would like to have a modern kitchen with big enough pantry and a comfortable dining space for entertaining.
Please help, all ideas are welcome :)

the partition wall is using up space as you have two "passages" created...not necessarily needed....Take out partition wall..make dining zone in that area.....eliminate peninsula in kitchen....go for L shape kitchen on the window and pantry wall and give a destination island where dining table sits now. More needs to be known about your space, and adjacent spaces.

You need to give us a floor plan of the full space in 2d with dimensions showing windows, doors, etc.

While you are working on a floor plan, you might check into putting a shallow cabinet on the hall side of the fridge, and eliminating the huge white elephant in the room. You'd have easy access to pantry items, a landing space for the fridge, and more counter space around the range.

Is it possible to do away with the living area shown at the top of the plan. Put kitchen in that area. Place the dining in the middle. Do away with the wall currently separating kitchen and bottom living area. Keep bottom living area in its current position but it would make for a much larger open feeling space.
