I hadn't heard of them. Can you tell me more about their accomplishments? That's really interesting that it says UglyRipe is an heirloom, and that they sell plants both for it and their Santa F1, but I don't see seeds for sale. Did you save seeds? Are either of these PVP varieties, and/or patented? They say they're non-GMO, and one is an heirloom (so, patents sound improbable, anyhow, but you never know with an enormous company).

Juliet F1 is related to Santa F1, apparently. I had heard of Juliet F1.

If anyone wants to grow their own Santa tomatoes from store-bought Santa F1's, it has been said that 90% of them will grow true from saved seed :).

Santa was developed by Known-You Seeds (Taiwan). Prococci bought the entire seed supply and introduced them as grape tomatoes. Maintained a monopoly for several years. Ugli Ripe was first Super Marmande. It was tweeked a couple times before the Florida Tomatoes Growers Association cut him off at the pass. They refused to allow him to market Ugli Ripe under their banner. There was a surplus of Super Marmande seed vended by folks like American seed ( ten cent racks) for several years after that. Have not seen it lately, but I still have one of those 10 cent packets.

I just filled out an order for Sand Hill Preservation for Super Marmande, among other stuff (I haven't sent it, yet). I really liked the flavor of regular Marmande last year—so, I thought I'd get Super Marmande and try it, this year. I didn't know it was a predecessor of Ugli Ripe. Are they exactly the same, with different names, or did it start out as Super Marmande and did the tweaks make it Ugli Ripe? Do you know some differences between the three varieties? Is one of them usually a better producer than the others?

I don't know if it's related to Marmande, but I'm also planning to grow Burk's Backyard Marmande, this year.
