What are the dimensions of the room? Do you have a floorplan?

It is open concept, so I would quote the actual living space as 18' x 18'.

It is open to the breakfast area and kitchen and those dimensions also do not include 3 1/2' width of space running the length from the doorway of the hall to the kitchen. Lots of space to play with, so I may be overthinking it....but the configuration we are considering is 156" x 131".

How is the room being used? Will everyone in the room ALWAYS be watching TV? If not, don't get a sectional. A group of people sitting, all lined up on a sectional, is like trying to make conversation in an airport lounge with someone 6 seats down. But if it's just a room for inviting people over to "watch the big game", then I guess one can maximize the space and put in one that is practically wall-to-wall. Thank you, no.

We recently switched to a giant sectional in our TV room and every time I go in there, I love it. Ours is a single room vs a pass through and the sectional works in the corner area and is about 2/3rds wall to wall. I love that the family + visitors + dog can all pile on without too much in each other's space. I also like that it allows for a large round coffee table. It's a really good vibe for our use - very welcoming.

I have a sectional and love it. Mine isn't huge, seats 6 pretty comfortably- the corner piece is a curved wedge, which make it easy to sit in the corner.

My opinion is that if you want a sectional, a large one is fine, just avoid the big, overstuffed, squishy behemoths. There are some lovely, nicely scaled sectionals.

If you like all your guests lined up in a row get a huge sectional , if you actually like to have a conversation in the space get sofas and chairs that can be arranged for conversation. Sectionals with chaise are even worse for seating when entertaining.
