If this kitchen works at all, it is because the bright green makes the black and white into a graphic. I doubt that a less intense color will work that way. Based on the colors you listed, I think you may want to change your appliances and countertops.

Are you opposed to doing the sage in here as well? That would be my vote.

I might go with white walls since you'll have lots of color elsewhere. Also, fun to accessorize the kitchen that's just in black and white. You can have just about any color in small spots like canisters, art or small rug. I think white walls would give your cabinets more weight.

Nope, new appliances, counters or painting cabinets are not in our budget...not even a little bit. I'm not opposed to doing sage green, or a bright color in the kitchen, but want to be sure it's the right color - kitchens are a pain to paint!

Maybe consider a graphic black and white wallcovering on the walls and leave the soffits white. That would still feel bright and with the warm floor finish I don't think it would feel cold.

I originally wrote sage to match your dining then erased before posting. You could also do a light buttery yellow (nothing harsh or strong) that would be a nice compliment to the sage. Then accessorize with sage dish towels, pot holders and place mats, etc. This is the color that looks fantastic with sage green.

I would paint the kitchen with Benjamin Moore Sage and then do the dining room in something complimentary, Benjamin Moore Olive branch.

It sounds like your colors mirror the colors in my home. I would suggest carmel/warm khaki in the kitchen. It would coordinate with the other colors in your home and look very handsome with the black and white. Pull in the other surrounding colors with accessories. That would be my choice.
