I have been under the pergola, pruning Teasing Georgia. This is my view, when I look out of the pergola. You can see the top of the stepladder in the first photo.

What a view! That’s exactly what pergolas are made for, to grow a beautiful rose on while framing a beautiful view. Views don’t come more beautiful than that! Lisa

That is a piece of Eden, Daisy, especially considering the garden from which you are looking at this wonderful view. If I had 5 million dollars I might be able to have something similar here in Southern California.

Beautiful view, very soothing and calming. And a very neatly trimmed hedge, which drew my eye immediately because I am in the process of trimming mine. It has grown too tall to reach it all and DH says no ladder (it is a two way slope, both to the South and West with the hedge running East to West). He says he cannot deal with a broken hip, mine. Early next Spring I will bring it down a foot or so, "God willing and the Creek don't rise" as they say. BTW the "Creek" meant was the Indian tribe.

Who wouldn't want that?... just lovely Daisy, and I also noticed the hedge, with the sea views it reminded me of a Cornish setting, I know you'll know what I mean as you once lived there too.

I am lucky. Crete is so beautiful. I know what you mean Marlorena, Cornwall, in some ways is very similar.

The hedge is olive tree plants. They make a good hedge. Cath be careful. your hedge sounds very tricky to trim. Don't go anywhere near a ladder.

I am useless on ladders Nik, any higher than the second rung and I wobble like a jelly.

Here is a photo from a little further back, under the pergola.

and a couple of summery ones, looking the other way.

Vaporac, the rose is Teasing Georgia.

and a couple I just now took out of my bedroom window.

Indeed, one can create a good hedge or topiary with olive trees (although to a local it may sound like sacriledge..).
Especially if one uses the small leaved wild olive tree Olea sylvestris,
usually used as a rootstock but being very common in Crete, rather than
    Olea europaea.

Daisy, the photos are all just gob-smackingly beautiful, though my absolute favourite is the third one down. It is delectable.
