Nice room. It appears you have some plant life in the room. it would be nice if you had a terrine of succulents on a Shelf. A collection of your favorite items would be nice. Make sure you display in numbers of (3)s. Bold colored jars, mask on an easel. Whatever you do make it BOLD since the wood is espresso. It will be Beautiful! Good luck

A large colorful painting on the wall.....and a Stranne lamp( Ikea). I love this lamp so much, I bought 11 of them. :-) There is one seller on eBay still has it.

Pull out the side chair a little and put the floor lamp on the other side between chair and bookshelves. I see some things on your bed which would look nice on the shelves....use things sparingly and I don't think I would put anything on the wall unless you want the sign over the bookcase only....not the TV.

If you're just starting, with that wider-than-the-TV print above the TV, and are planning to add more framed prints/pictures, that's a good start. If that's all you're doing, then it's unbalanced. You need to balance the width of the TV, and it helps if the depth (height) of the print over the TV is equal to or less than the TV. Look at your/phun's inspiration pic.

Also look at the inspiration pic and notice that you have a large number of very small items in and on top of the bookcase. In the inspiration pic, a number of the items on top are corralled in a wire basket making them look like one larger unit. A lot of styling shelves successfully is understanding/figuring out balance and mass/weight. You can have different items on either side of the TV -- two fern prints vs. three varied size baskets -- but the mass is equivalent so they look well-balanced.

I think you have done a nice job so far, and gotten some great advice on how to put the finishing touches in there! I especially like the ensemble on the top right shelf, with the barn star and light and candle. It offers a nice variation of heights and sizes.

I would consider swapping out the baskets for wicker woven or natural fiber baskets instead. I think it would make a big difference in adding some warmth and texture to the space. Here are some examples of warm brown wicker in espresso or black shelving. It warms it right up and makes it look much cozier, IMO.

I suggest you move the painting slightly to the left so that the left edge of the painting lines up with the left edge of the tv. Since the painting is wider than the tv I suggest you find a tall, skinny painting or statue to put in the gap below the painting. I think you should also put some black poster board behind the bookshelves so that the piece has the appearance of being on solid unit and you dont see the white wall behind the unit.

I'm fascinated that you don't have to use even one of those segments for the TV components. We always seem to have a stack of them!
