I hear you! My husband's albums, audio equipment, DVD's were so difficult to work with. Luckily, everything is in a soundproofed rec room now, so life is good. But our storage choices might give you some ideas:

I scored this from a public library (for $30) when it was being renovated. It's the unit they stored children's oversized books on, so has storage on both sides and is perfect for albums. DVDs on bookshelves:

The stereo, etc is here. Large speakers (they drove me nuts the most) are on either side.

@hatetoshop. Yes, the speakers! They are so damn bossy and needy. He currently has cherry floor speakers that need...space. I'm hoping that we can move on from them. At some point we too will have a sound proofed room in the basement. You are lucky to be at that point now. :)

@celerygirl. That would work if I can get him to buy new speakers. I really like the different levels shown here. I wonder how they made the vinyl dividers?
