Heh. Just this morning my wife-to-be dropped a whole half-pint jar into the garbage disposal. The opening was just barely large enough to let the jar slide in and it took me 10 minutes to get it back out because of the suction.

After the disaster, I put a strainer on the disposal opening so uninvited stuff doesn't slide down there.

It was a cheap lesson, as life/canning lessons go, a new regulator was only $11.25.

Wow I'd expect the regulator to hold up to the disposal better than that. Even my dishrag comes out of the disposal - where it often ends up -with only minor damage.

The flat metal ring weight got mauled and would not slide down to the base of the regulator which separated when the disposal was turned on.. I briefly thought about filing it smooth so it would slide, but it is such an important bit of equipment that I decided to just buy a new one.

Don't do this:

Neglect to check out what you need as far as canning stuff for canning projects that are coming up.

I did not recall that I did not bring the citric acid when I moved. The local Walmart did not have it in the store, (I actually went to look and had 4 different employees help me) I had to order it. Trying not to whine about it but I spent the whole day walking around at the farmers' market and was tired. And it was my fault for not checking sooner.
