HELP - BRICK DISASTER!

last modified: 8 years ago

Hello!

Building a new home and they recently finished our brick. It was an extremely poor job and on top of that, the mortar/cement is three different colors. We reached out to the Sales Rep at Maronda and Construction Supervisor who agreed, but said it takes weeks to blend. Said they're going to try and acid wash it. I followed up asking more specifics (such as what the acid wash will do, if it will rectify the mortar inconsistency, etc.) and got no response.

I then followed up a week later insisting we speak with the Construction Supervisor (Sales Rep wouldn't give us his number), but I was told the Construction Supervisor is not ready to speak with us and hasn't finished doing everything to resolve the issues. Said to give him until early next week.

Today we noticed they were pouring the cement for porch and moving onto other projects so we (finally) found Construction Supervisor's number and followed up. He said the Sales Rep and VP all met at the site on Wednesday and deemed the issues resolved and it looked okay, so they're moving on from the brick.

In an attempt to fix the color inconsistency, it clearly looks like they put a thin layer of skin on top of the mortar. You can literally scrape it off. When we asked the Construction Supervisor if they did this he claims no, they would never do that. We asked how he got the mortar to be consistent and he claimed he didn't know.

My questions....

- Does this brick look at bad as we think or are we overreacting?

- Does it look like they put cement on top of the mortar? If so, is this acceptable? Will the cement even adhere to the dried mortar?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We've invested so much time, money and emotion into the house and the thought of walking away is so painful but we can't close on a house that was so poorly done.

Thanks in advance!!

When the finished (before) and no, that's not wet!
