Window Trim Question

last modified: 8 years ago

We're getting ready to order a tripe unit Anderson 400 window for a remodel project. We will be replacing the other windows as well as the siding at some point in hopefully the near future.

The new window(s) will be a new construction and the opening will be reframed as it is larger than the current opening.

My question is whether I should order the exterior trim for the window. Our current windows do not have any trim, and the cedar siding just butts up to the window frame. Since we are planning to get new siding (hopefully soon), can we just butt the siding as was done for our other windows and then get window trim later when we replace the rest of the windows and the siding? I would love to save $200 if I can, and keep the look consistent with the other windows until we change them out.

One more detail that comes into play here - I am considering going with 3 separate units instead of the triple casement unit. The reason for this is to allow us to control the spacing between the windows and use flat casing there to match the rest of the casings. So if I order the factor trim, I assume it would be sized to work for the gap between the individual units.
