I live in Phoenix and I was recently given Eastern Red Cedar, Blue spruce, and Black spruce tree seeds. I love spruce trees but I see very few of them here in Phoenix. I am almost certain that the black spruce will not make it at all but I'm gonna try anyway because I'm not throwing the seeds out. Has anyone here heard of Colorado Blue Spruce being grown in Phoenix? Of course I will have plenty of water for it so drought won't be a concern but what about the heat in the summer and our winters that last two or three weeks with lows in the 40s and sometimes 30s. I'm pretty sure the red cedar will do fine (fingers crossed) as they are rated zone 2-9. I'm in 9b. What I really need help with is getting the Spruce seeds to germinate. It's December and in Phoenix our temps in the winter are just like spring for most northern climates. 60s day 40s night. Should I plant them now, should I wait until spring? I will start them out in a seed starting tray either way but should I start them inside or outside and when? They do not need any pre treatment according to treeseeds.com where my friend got them. But could storing them in the fridge hurt for a few weeks?
