Jeff, IMO I wouldn't replace the floor. Instead I'd have it refinished by a really good refinisher (provided of course that it's a true hardwood floor).

I've seen a stain mixed that is not quite as dark as walnut. It lets some of the lighter tone of the wood come thru and picks up some of the dark tone in other parts of the grain. A great finisher can hit that exact tone you want. It will save a lot of $$ and a lot of time -- and you'll have a unique floor.

My above suggestion of course is provided that your floor is actual hardwood and hasn't been refinished so many times that another refinish wouldn't work.

Hi Jeff, I agree with OTF -- from your photo, both the floor and the cabinets look nice. If up close, they look horrible, then you would change them. :)

I like a dark grey large format tile with your cabinets (12x24 is a good size - I think the tiles in this pic are more square but just for the idea)

I have to agree if your floors are real- sand and refinish in a darker stain!
