Been Away....

Hi everyone,

Apologies for my absence lately. Been busy with life and such. Hope you all are well.

Snow has fallen already, although not as much as I would like (but thankfully, we haven't had to shovel yet). My plants are doing great. I have only lost four so far due to underwatering: Mathilde, pusilla, tsangii (from Gardino's-used to be odetteae) and a little lacunosa. Really sad about losing them, especially tsangii. Oh well. It just means I can get it again when I order for my birthday ;D.

Illagiorum continues to grow! Then again, it's right beside me here in the south facing window (whereas compared to Nikki, fungii, and Red Buttons-also in the same window, have slowed down). Obscura "Philip" has grown a little, too, but Ilagiorum continues to throw out new vines and leaves :). This is probably my new favorite.

Hoping Santa brings me a greenhouse one of these years. I'd probably hibernate all winter in there lol.

Actually, I've been in front of the screen a lot these days, sadly. Outdoor gardening has been over for some time now. So, I've been just watching Stranger Things, an series I grew up with called Adventures in Wonderland and of course, just life in general. However, I am not a total chair potato and I've been crocheting here and there. Made Mary's corset from Hocus Pocus for my group costume next year (well, me and two other friends, anyway-we're going to be The Sanderson Sisters. I am going as Winifred/Winnie).

Now that the "off-season" has arrived for us in the Northern Hemisphere, there hasn't been much to report on Hoya growing, save for the news I shared in this thread.

Ooh, citrus blossoms :). Someday, I shall grow a few. I miss the one I had. It was labeled as a Meyer lemon, but with all the thorns on it, it might have been a Key Lime. The best scent I ever encountered from a plant was a Sweet Olive I ordered and it dried out too fast for me since I had it in a terra cotta pot. I have an Amaryllis bulb leafing out for me (no sign of a flower spike yet), but it's still nice to see some green growth.

Glad you are back and glad Monica is healthy too! We are blanketed under a few inches of snow. Thankfully I have my little greenhouse in the basement to tinker in. My husband says it keeps me sane. He doesn't even complain about the electric bill. How much can a few little lights cost anyway? Oh the price of sanity!

A greenhouse would keep me in better spirits and frame of mind all the time (and maybe have a little gardening business on the side). Something glass and wrought iron (or material simulated to look like it) is the big, BIG dream. Wood and Plexiglas is what I am aiming for right now (to be reasonable-however, it never hurts to dream big). Something where I can let Hoyas twine and climb along the rafters or up fishing line. Maybe finally get around to that experiment of mine (crossing a Hoya with a carnivorous plant). Or just to hide away from the world and people. Or have a friend or two over for tea, coffee, or beverages of choice and some talk. It's kinda lonely around here, as it's just my parents and I. We rarely get company and they're not as outgoing as I am (although I would be a little more if I knew how to drive and had a job, but I digress). Anyway, bundle up everyone. It's a nice and cool 24 degrees outside with snow on the way.

"And if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills, well the landslide will bring you down..." (had to add that-I'm a big Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks fan.)
