Hello everyone, I'm Ron. This is my first post, happy to join the forum. My wife Sarah and I went looking for a piece of furniture we could re-purpose as a kitchen island. We saw this at a local Salvation Army and fell in love. We knew the color was all wrong for our kitchen but we had to have it.

Our dilemma is how to make it go with the kitchen better while changing it as little as possible. I will say that this is something that's more important to my wife than me. I love it the way it is and and I think it looks great in there with no changes at all. It's practically a work of art. The absolute last thing I'd want to do is paint it. We'd lose so much of what makes it beautiful.

My wife loves the piece as much as I do and would also like to avoid painting it. But it's just not doing anything for her in its' current state, and I respect that. She also feels that as it is now, it just doesn't really look like an island. It looks like a console we parked in the kitchen. I agree with her there.

I'm thinking maybe if we add nice top that matches the counter tops it'll make the piece look like a formal island AND give my wife enough of what she needs to see some coordination with the rest of the kitchen. One other thing we discussed was removing and spray painting the hardware to match the cabinet hardware.

Ultimately, while I'll offer my feedback and opinion, my wife always gets the last word on all things interior decorating (mom taught me that). But we're both interested in getting other opinions from the group here. Please share ideas on we can do to make it coordinate better with the dark gray cabinets, light gray walls and chrome hardware while changing it as little as possible. Ideas on what to do about those doors on the back are also appreciated.
