Can you say where you are located. I can’t grow capers in my climate but I’ve seen them growing many times in blazing hot, rocky places such as old walls in the Mediterranean region and Middle East. Can you reproduce those conditions? Do those pots have drainage holes? Is the mix very loose and gritty? Are they in full sun?

From what I have read capers like hot and dry climates so I figured my area should be pretty good for it but the only issues is my soil is clay like so for now I want to grow them in containers.

The container soil is an orchid mix , not a coarse orchid mix though and the buckets have a lot of holes and are usually kept raised . Drainage is usually pretty good I think and I keep them on the dry side.

The biggest difference is the brown one , was set out in the direct sun when I found it had turned from green to brown.

Both receive a lot of light but I originally thought that the brown one may have ended up sunburned but I'm not really sure. Both have produced flowers during the summer. but the green one has new growth where the brown one , I don't really see any.

Well I’m out of ideas then. I can’t explain why one looks unhappy if they are both in the same conditions. Personally I’d try one in the ground. I don’t see clay being a problem if it drains well.

Thanks Floral. I was thinking about trying one in the ground ( why I have two of them ) so come this spring I'll plop the brown one in and see how it goes.
