Rock idea is fine depending on local snowfall.

Perhaps black or reflective vertical numbers on the railing endposts at foot of stairs.

Anything close to the street and low can be obscured by parked vehicles. Use reflective numbers (a set for both directions) on mailbox if this is a car route and not a walking postal route where the mail receptacle is typically on the house.

I would say it’s about 30-40 ft, maybe 50 from the street. My house sits on the main road in our subdivision, and people generally go faster than 25. Im looking for something other than numbers on the mailbox mostly because I’ve had to replace it several times this year already. And I’m tired of having to purchase new numbers or a sign that goes on the post itself.

2 locations in above image are not bad (on the brick area, people tend not to look that high up for house numbers). For that setback and traffic speed, you need 4 or 5-inch numbers and a good contrast ratio. If there is enough space below the light fixture at garage center, place them there for night-time visibility. If there, get fairly flat numbers / plaque; often people place high-relief (thick) numbers near a light source and the cast shadows make for hard reading.

This is a landscaping forum and the house desperately needs good landscaping. What is there does nothing for it.

This is just a picture of the house when it was firstly built before I bought it. Much has been done landscaping wise since then.

I see a lot of potential options. The success depends on not just where you put the numbers, but how. There is a lot of variety in house numbers, including LED lighted ones. I'd start by mocking up some cereal-box-cardboard numbers and taping them at the different locations in order to see the general potential. After you get a location, start looking at actual numbers that would look good there. As mentioned, you'd probably need a background board if you place them on the stone. If you place below overhang, they've probably got to be white or lighted.

Honestly, from a safety point of view (ambulance finding you), given such a busy facade, I'd go large and simple. Right on the garage door under the light.

I like the idea of putting the numbers right under the garage light, except there isn’t enough space to place them there unfortunately.

Orient them like this under a porch light.

House numbers should not be installed on a moveable door or window. In this case if the garage door is open, the numbers disappear. Of course, that is a low-percentage happening, but emergencies can occur at any time.

Perhaps the garage light is wide-angle, or can be adjusted, and then the numbers can be placed just to the side of the fixture.

Vertical under porch light is OK. Not sure if those fixtures cast any bottom light.

I put mine on the mailbox.

I assume you have checked with your local municipality? Some have very specific requirements as to where house numbers should be displayed.

btw, having them on the mailbox or driveway post/sign/boulder is fine but they should also be clearly visible on the house as well, unless the house itself not visible from the street. A mailbox can be knocked over or sign/boulder obscured by a snowdrift :-)

As a person who has to find house numbers regularly, I prefer the mailbox AND the house. Preferably illuminated and in a spot that won't be obscured when you forget to trim the landscaping. And big as you can stand, although my recent cataract surgery will help there.

I also have to find house numbers regularly (I'm a Realtor) and Joseph Corlett is right - have them large and illuminated and on the mailbox and the house. It is irritating to search for a property and find no numbers, no sign and then have to calculate the likelihood that I am choosing the right house to show to potential buyers. It happens more often than you can imagine especially in neighborhoods where there is an HOA and no signs are permitted and many of the houses look alike!

However, the EMS service or other emergency service teams are a more important consideration. Keep the numbers large, simple font and illuminated with high contrast.

Now, on to the shutters. They aren't sized right for your windows at all. Please read these two articles so you know what works. Yours shutters are too skinny. I do like the color of the shutters - but they could be much better if changed to the right size with hardware so they are functional looking:

^See how the shutters are sized to each cover half of the window? Plus they have hinges and shutter dogs to make them look functional. These particular shutters may or may not be functional...but they look like they could cover the window.

People looking for your house should mostly be driving on your side of the street. The first location for numbers, IMO, would be vertically, right side of the garage door and very large. Replicate them in a smaller version if you have a street side mailbox. If you're always having to replace the mailbox &/or numbers just get peel and stick ones for the box and put the fancy big ones on the house.
