When we retire, 4 years!!, we plan on a double wide down in Florida for the winter months and a double wide in central Indiana for the summer months. Got to spend time with the grand kids!!

I think a "home" is just 4 walls. I plan on being out of it as much as possible while I can!!!

I sure hope so, I hate the entire EVERYTHING about moving. There is nothing enjoyable or easy about the process. Of course the last time which started in June 2017 and finally concluded in August 2017 (from the time the majority of our stuff went into PODs so the house could be staged and listed through the time we arrived in our new state and the PODs showed up) was a cross country move, but never again!

I hope so, but it could change. Moving here was the hardest thing I'd ever done. We've polished the place up to suit us and we don't want to move. But it's a big house and could get expensive as we age.....so, no promises.

We are moving back to New Mexico in January. That will be our 2nd to last move. Our forever home will be built in Oklahoma on property that's been in my family for almost 100 years.

forever has a funny way of changing...my mother in law said she would only move from her suburban house in a pine box. until she decided to move to a luxury high rise doorman building on the upper west side of manhattan. i can say i never want to move away from my current home outside of boston, i even have where the elevator will go all planned.. but now my husband says he is cold all the time...ah well, we'll see!

Absolutely!! I am in my forever home. We built our two bedroom two bath custom house 34 years ago on top of a hill in the Texas hill country. I am currently updating a couple of thing like the flooring and converting a bath to ada so I can age in place. The house is only 1500 sq ft but I don't want to clean any more then that. I would rather to outside riding and driving my horses. Plus with this view who would want to move. Sorry about the shadows in the picture.

I thought this would be our forever home when we bought it 16 years ago. But we do not need this much space or this much yard anymore. We are really liking the idea of a smaller house or condo with less upkeep.

We're about a month away from completion of the custom build, and it takes into account the long-term needs of caring for hub's mom (including curbless showers and single-level living), which in turn we can also use down the road...

not yet. We are living in a one bedroom apartment while we build our forever home. Are downsizing from 3000 square feet to a 1500 square foot mid-century inspired one level home in a wooded setting, and an easy care, no grass landscape. We can't wait to move in!

Love my present home at the beach, however, being realistic means that I need to move to a single level someday.... even though I workout with a personal trainer several times a week life has a way of throwing curves balls along the way, life is what happens when you make plans! Very few people actually live in their “forever “ home. And don’t suggest a chair lift for the stairs, it would make me feel as if I were living in a convalescent home. No logical place for an elevator either.

What an ridiculously denial-filled phrase! Like teamaltese put it, the only "forever home" is the grave -- we shouldn't think about that very much, but asserting that we'll live "happily ever after" in our "forever home" are phrases fit only for fairy tales told to young children -- or realtors selling us something. How about we grow up and use something like "long-term home" or "aging in place home" instead?

We are finishing up the design of our dream home with many aging in place features, including an elevator, curbless showers, doors wide enough for walkers and wheelchairs, etc. We've saved for many years to get exactly what we want, and God-willing, will begin building in about 4 months when we finally retire!

We are in the process of buying what will be our "aging in place" home, as bethiniowa said. We close in three weeks (!) and will move in the spring after we put this house on the market. I can't wait!

My husband and I bought our forever home 2-1/2 years ago and we love it! It suits us perfectly!
