Kitchen over time

I purchased a house and am planning on updating it slowly. Over time- especially the kitchen. I can live with ugly . Since that is the plan what is the best order of the kitchen to do? I ultimately will redo the entire kitchen just not in one shot.

Depends.....don't do cosmetic things which sounds like your intent, until the functional nature and layout etc is evaluated. That means simply use the space in current state for several months.also develope budget.

I would first live with it for a while, like herbflavor suggested. See what parts of it you like and don't like and then come up with ideas to fix what you want to. Use that time to also begin saving up money because the big, costly things will have to come first - flooring, cabinetry, appliances if they need to be changed. There's no point in getting the cabinets painted if you want a newer, more functional, configuration and will have to replace them anyway. That's tossing money away.

I was wondering this as well- can you replace flooring and then later replace cabinetry? Or will there be an issue potentially where the flooring/cabinets meet?

Over what period of time? I guess I would replace whatever you can’t live with first ( e. g., a malfunctioning / unusable appliance, a hideous floor in bad shape...things like that ) . Other than maybe wall paint & window treatments I would probably just live with it until I can redo the entire room. It really depends upon it’s age and condition. I’ve seen posts on here about “ugly” kitchens that are actually quite nice & the homeowner just doesn’t like it’s style. In my home, I replaced the appliances, they had to be replaced- weren’t working- with a few basic lower cost ones and then about five years later did an entire kitchen remodel with new everything. This was part of a whole house remodel.

IMO floor comes after demolition if you are actually planning on redoing the whole space . Right now I would work on a plan for whatever you hope to get done eventually. Then live with the kitchen as mentioned to see how the layout functions. If you replace the flooring now you would probably make a mistake since new cabinets will be different in confuguartion or size. You can spend money on new appliances for sure I would not buy cheap and replace later , get what you want the first time. I still think the best advice is to save until you can do the whole kitchen, and when you get estimates make sure you add at least 20% to that figure for unforseen issues. If at all possible a kitchen designer / interior designer could be well worth the money at this stage jst to make sure it all comes together .

Over time doesn’t work with a kitchen unless you are willing to live without a kitchen for years.

Demo. Rough electrical. Rough plumbing. Flooring. Cabinets. Countertops. Finish plumbing. Finish Ekevtrical. Backsplash. Paint.

It all starts with the blank s slate of a room with nothing in it do that there is access to do what needs to be done.
