Kitchen Layout Questions

I am attaching the layout for our new kitchen, just curious to hear if anyone has any comments or suggestions regarding the layout. My main concern is the lack of counter space next to the range/refrigerator, but there will be an island in the middle of the L shape. We are not doing any uppers but will be doing some open shelving in the corner next to the range hood. is all the counter space on the other side of the kitchen just wasted space? I would love to hear if you think there is a better way to lay this kitchen out. Just for reference, the end of the counters on the R side is a slider door which leads out from the dining room. On the other side of the kitchen there will be a little wall that juts out and is the beginning of the mud room.

Can you post a 2d version so we can see how it lays out with measurements?

The perimeter layout will be more efficient if you turn the island--long side parallel to the range, and add a prep sink. If adding a prep sink is not feasible (cost, slab foundation, etc.), you'll still have more prep space, and more landing space for the fridge, with that orientation.

Or you could move the fridge to the left of the sink and push the stove down to maximize prep space between sink and stove.

Another thought which I like cuz it’s my layout. ;)))

From fridge, cab, dw, sink, cab, corner ss, cab, then range, cabs

    And turn the island.

Well, shoots, I didn’t look closely, scrolled to the 2d, and you have a window where my range is... oops! Maybe windows flanking range?

Your design is for a smaller space and the counter left of the sink is unused. The window location is limiting. Moving the pantry cabs around the frig over to far left relocates that counter space into the work zone with the frig pushed down to the end. Two 18" pantries 24" deep are very difficult to utilize. Make it one 36" or relocate where it can be 12" deep. A counter depth or recessed frig would be my choice. Your range can move over one cabinet and eliminate those wings in the 3D and add a hood. I'd recommend an induction range like a Bosch 800 or Benchmark. Miele or Bosch dw with utensil tray. You'll need recessed lights over the work surfaces led dimmable with decent lumens positioned so that you don't shadow the surface. Single bowl sink is a popular choice.

two 15 inch pantries side by side far left down from sink...away from fridge..with your absence of wall cabinets apparently food stuffs are going in pantries. However you are significantly reducing counter space. i might install some wall cabinets and have one 15-18 inch pantry....full depth with rollouts is pretty nice...it holds a lot....in addition to a wall cabinet or two. What is the thinking behind expensive dbl bowl farmhouse sink. With island the visual won't be significant and dbl bowl is not really good use of space for you. I would change to single bowl, undermount and consider shift to left, NOT centered under window and then corner counter space will expand, as much will be happening there. The faucet can be off center so will rest almost at middle of window....the whole"centering the sink under window" theme has been proven often unworthy, given the sacrifices sometimes made for its implementation.

Your proposed floor plan really reminds me of this one (scroll down for the reveal pics!)

I think the cool thing about the plan is that if you put upper cabinets along the stove/fridge wall, they sort of fade into the background - because the 'front' (meaning to the left of the sink and the island) is so open but you gain all of that storage space.

I also agree with others to put the two tall pantries together - otherwise you can only store something up to 18" wide

To further up the functionality, after rotating the island to face the stove, you could add a small prep sink so that there's a nice triangle of fridge-sink-stove on the right hand side of the kitchen (with the main sink being used for clean up)

Congrats on your kitchen and good luck!
