Is this backplash weird?

I am thinking to use this black and white tiles only on that wall as you can see in the picture. Other area backsplash will be same quartz as the countertop (including full height behind the cooktop and 4 inch strip backsplash around the windows).

Any opinions?

I think it's nice, and something different. but to use it in just that one spot, yes,,,,it's weird.

I would rather you use it on the wall over the stove and use the quartz everywhere else.

Or, wondering if you could set the tile in an insert in the actual quartz...and do something like this. no borders. just cut a spot in the quartz and inset the tiles.

I'm sure I'll be the minority here. everyone else will say just use the quartz. i happen to like things that are unique

Beth H, I like the pictures! Yes I like something unique too. Usual marble backplash is just boring to me as well.

    Yes, that’s weird.

I prefer over stove, but like. It's interesting and your house.

It’s not weird, but it is a bit busy. We did a similar geometric style tiles, but with more subtle colors. Worked out great.

Suggest doing it over the range verse random wall.

Note: picture is prior to a white mortar being applied.

Kitchen killer. : ( Sorry. Have a tiled/trimmed board created, and HANG it over the cook. When you tire of it in six months, use it for a huge cutting board. ( jmho)

Your blue grey island already has quite a bit of interest. If you want to add a bit more personality, I would do a backsplash with a pattern that plays off your island’s soft tones.

Or pick a glazed subway with a bit of interest.

Keep it classic and understated. Are you still toying with changing the wall colour?

I think it would detract from and compete too much with the quartz backsplash you are doing.

Wanted to add... if you want to use it I would use it where you want to draw attention. That's kind of a weird spot to draw attention to... that's what I meant by saying it competes too much. So if you wanted to use it, Beth's suggestion makes a lot more sense. :)

You have a beautiful kitchen! I do love the pattern tiles but have to agree with others, choose a softer color ,the contrast with your white kitchen is too harsh. Something more gray/white toned will look great, like pictured above. Also, for placement I would choose the whole kitchen or the stove area.

Yes I thought that's a bit eccentric backsplash, that's why asked here. I seem to like patterned tiles (simple geometric patterns), and want something unusual. I found this one in a local tile shop. This one is more toned down.

Great tile but the spot is weird. Instead of adding interest with something that would be permanent and expensive to change, show your personality with rugs, window treatments and art.

This was the inspiration. I really like this tile.

I love the tile just for sure not in that place and IMO calling attention to a stove has always seemed weird to me . Your hood is usually enough attention for that space. I think you have a lot going on in this space already with the different handle for the cabinets the fancy edge on the island I would just keep the same backsplash every where and add accessories if you want some fun.BTW your inspiraation is a bathroom, not a room where you spend the better part of your day.

It creates a focal point that is odd. There is no other reason to go to the spot and it competes with the natural focal points of the room. I agree the whole wall would be good instead of that spot.

I like the tile, just not in your kitchen. It works better in a contemporary space, like your inspiration pic.

nice tile - wrong placement. If you want to be really off the wall, tile the back of your glass cabinets. When lit up, I think they would look rather cool.

Check out cement tile. The suggestion to tie in the island paint color is a good one. Pick something you can use everywhere.

We agree, over the stove as an accent tile would be wonderful.

Since it's just that one wall I would keep the same look you have throughout the rest of the kitchen. If you only do that one wall it looks like you changed your mind or ran out of that tile. Good luck! Beautiful kitchen!!
