Color idea?

Hard to get a good angle here but this color scheme was there from previous owner. Not bad but many other parts of the house have this same color and it would be nice to separate this room from the rest.

Looking to mount a TV on the wall next to fireplace with a low-lying cabinet/stand. Have not yet purchased a couch/loveseat combo for the room but plan to in the near future. For now the carpet stays.

Any suggestions on an alternate wall color? Furniture color to go with it?

Thanks!

What do you have in mind for the furniture? Any links or photos?

Open to ideas on that. Nothing too extravagant. A simple solid colored couch and love seat to match the rest of the room decor.

I would definitely NOT buy a sofa and loveseat combination. Most people find that a sofa and 2 chairs give much more flexibility in furniture arrangement. You'll be able to have your sofa facing the fireplace and since the mantel seems low enough to perhaps accommodate a TV above it, you could have a chair on each side of the sofa, facing the fireplace/TV.

It looks like the fireplace could use a good cleaning and once that's done, you could determine whether you want to leave it as is or perhaps paint or whitewash it. I can't tell what the material is on the floor.

I like the orange sofa below from Crate & Barrel for your living room, or another one similar to it with exposed legs and narrow arms. That will allow you more space in the room for the chairs. You could paint your walls a light tan or taupe. A pair chairs in a solid color or a small print could be chosen to blend with with your walls and the sofa you select.

A seagrass rug would form a nice background for your new furniture.

Agree with Carolyn A-K. Don't be pressured by the salespeople at the big box furniture stores to buy a sofa and love. You'll always be pulling your hair out trying to arrange them.

How about yellow walls and aqua or turquoise accents.

What about creating a new surround for the FP? And I love the ideas above! Your walls look yellow....are they? I think a neutral greige would be so much better.

    Great suggestions so far!

To elaborate on the sofa / loveseat comment - the TV will be going on the wall next to the fireplace. Directly in front of the fireplace is a doorway so the logical seating and viewing angle is to the left of the fireplace.

Another person asked about floor. There is carpet but hardwood is beneath it. Not sure what condition. Like I said, leaving carpet for now (its new'ish) but wouldn't be opposed to the idea of hardwood in the future.

How many feet is it from the fireplace hearth to the doorway? You may be able to bring the furniture arrangement (float the grouping) closer to the fireplace. The grouping can be tight. Furniture doesn't always have to go against walls.

Furniture placement idea but closer to the fireplace.

I'd like to see more pictures or a sketch of the room with dimensions in order to determine the best furniture arrangement for you.

Here's a start - It's not a particularly large room. These shots are from the previous owner. The giant wall unit is no longer there as you can see. The fireplace in real life is a bit larger than the one on the floorplan, but it gives you a bit of an idea of where things are!

If a floating grouping doesn't work, Maybe the TV on the right side of the fireplace.
In this way, I suggest a console table at the left windows . Two lamps and accessories.Sofa nearer the fireplace and pulled away from the sofa table to allow a pathway. Coffee table and two printed fabric chairs opposite the fireplace. A table between the two chairs. Maybe you have room for two small ottomans in front of the fireplace for more seating. If there is not enough room for the console table, the same layout with the sofa against the windows.

Seeing the floorplan, I would do the same layout as I said above, but move the sofa to the wall opposite the fireplace. Two chairs away from the window. End table between. Console table at the window with two lamps and accessories L-shape arrangement. Maybe a different chair near the fireplace on the right wall.
Maybe the TV on the right of fireplace against the wall with a similar layout.

I am not sure if I am visualing that correctly, but I had imagined the TV going on the wall to the left of the fireplace with a small console underneath it. Then a couch against the wall opposite the fireplace and a loveseat/chair against the window. Perhaps an ottoman or another chair can go near the fireplace.

Regardless of arrangement we will still need to decide on color scheme. Like I said, the carpet will stay for now and unfortunately due to budget, no major changes will be made at the moment to the fireplace/mantle other than a cleaning. So we must find a color that will match the brick and wood on the mantle as well as the brown carpet.

Placing the TV on the wall to the left of the fireplace, you can have a standard arrangement of the sofa facing the TV with a chair angled toward the TV on each side of the sofa. Or you could try an angled arrangement such as I show below, just for a change.

A version of YOUR room with a little personalization........you could really do whatever you desire though. It is just a matter of your personal taste.

Do you use the fireplace? If not, its unusual placement in a corner next to the door is making the design of this room very difficult since it cannot be a focal point and is making placement of the tv difficult as well. (We got rid of a badly placed fireplace bc it restricted the function of the room.) If you want to use the fireplace and try to make it a design feature, I think LB Interiors' design makes the seating arrangement able to encompass both the fireplace and the tv.

I Love the pale grey walls with white trim they pop...and one wall, accent wall maybe charcoal where you plan on putting the TV
