Do you often raise the blinds? How much privacy do you need? One option is frosted window film that you can apply yourself.

I've never seen vertical blinds installed over a door.

Take them down, reapply a film and repaint the door in thw wall color.

If you want a window covering on the door I would consider a roller shade mounted just below the closer. I would use magnetic hold down brackets to prevent the shade from swaying when the door is used with the shade down. There are a lot of great patterns available or you could use a solid color to make it just go away.
