Current Trends That Will Be Passe Within Two Years

I never have liked granite in the home, but signs are that it is trending out. Same with the stainless steel that for more than a few years no one could live without. Love white kitchens, and I am so happy to see how popular they have become; but it is likely that they, too, will become scorned -- especially since blue seems to be coming into vogue in a hurry.

The niches in shower walls began a few years ago, and have grown in size as the need for change has set its eyes on them. I figure that in a couple of years we will begin to hear them referred to as "so 20teens." I wonder if kitchen islands and the open-floor plan will meet the same fate. Seems like many families may begin to want to prepare food in a separate room and that some people may view the open-floor plan as looking like a furniture store. With tech moving as quickly as it is, there will be plenty of options for keeping track of children without having to physically see them.

I think that the Gaineses of "Fixer Upper" are very smart to call it a day at the height of their popularity. People are beginning to tire of the format. And the Property Brothers are looking like they will soon retire from tv biz -- they are taking advantage of their show to do their own makeovers. HGTV is trying their best to find lovey-dovey couples to replace the two shows; they will not succeed. That channel and Food Network are really hurting for sponsors who will pay the big bucks.

It will always change. How else are they going to sell you new stuff that will be obsolete in another year. I am surprised that fixer upper lasted as long as it did. I got bored with it so long ago. Her decorating style is so one note. You seen one you seen them all. I don't know of the property brothers. At least they keep re-inventing their shows. I don't know if she is still around but I loved Candice Olsen. Not only did she have beautiful rooms, but she explained how she achieved the look.

Granite has been in kitchens since the early 90's. hardly a trend. I don't seeing it going anytime soon. what else besides quartz can you put on your countertops? (I consider marble, quartzite and other stone in the granite family). Formica had it's 4 decades,,,until granite came along. i guess we will have to see what takes it's place.

Niches have also been around for 25 years, if not more. With people using more sophisticated hair products and bath gels, people need somewhere to put those things. I happen to like niches and stone countertops. I don't think they will be departing soon.

Open floor plan,,,i'm just god-awful-tired of hearing that phrase. every single show that's all you hear,,,,"I want an open floor plan so I can entertain". Seriously. how many people entertain all the time? people don't realize how noisy it can be if someone is cooking, has the vent going, and someone else is trying to watch tv in that "open floor plan" room! But, it does look nice when decorated to the nines.

and this thing about 'seeing my kids while I'm cooking". I don't even understand that part. When we were kids we were never even allowed in the kitchen (and it was closed off!) . Half the time we were outside playing and had to be called in to even eat. These helicopter moms that need to watch their children 24 hrs a day,,,I dunno. I mean, if they're toddlers, yes,,,but c'mon,,,kids grow quickly. you don't need to always see them while you;re in the kitchen. and that's another thing,,how often are you in the kitchen?? Are you a short order cook?
