Your orchid is a Phalaenopis Orchid.

I would take it out of the decorative pot and make sure the pot has good drainage. The biggest killer of orchids is wet feet. Water will rot the roots. The roots need air.

You will probably find that your orchid is actually potted in a little soft plastic pot and the silver pot is just for show. The only short term problem is how often to water and it is winter there.

Anyway, if as I suspect your orchid is in a little plastic pot jammed into the Sphagnum Moss you might be better off doing nothing till better times arrive.

I purchased one in what passes as early winter here and watered it 4 times in three months.....and that is the problem, the potting material holds a lot of water. Why are they marketed like that? So they do not have to watered in store. Anyway, good luck and keep warm.

With phalaenopis orchids, larger pots aren't necessarily better. The same holds true for miniature phals, too. Although, those flimsy clear inner pots aren't the best choice either. These nurseries used to use better quality clear inner pots, but now they keep going with cheaper and cheaper ones that I wouldn't even call a pot.

With that being said, I always repot my orchids anyways into pots that are of much better quality. The kind I use have a black inner net pot placed inside a clear outer pot. These come in various sizes, but I go with ones that are only slightly bigger than the "pots" that these orchids come in. I believe they are 2.75" in size. You can't go wrong with these pots, and my orchids love them.

Phals don't really care about being repotted while in bloom. Plus, these blooms were already beginning to fade. Now I have it, along with the rest of my mini phals, placed under a grow light, eager and ready for spring to get here. Some of them currently have some bloom spikes growing. Though, none of them are close to opening up just yet. I have all of them growing in these pots, even my larger phals.

I do use this type of pot for my only Dracula, but found that after a while phals will have roots growing through the net holes which poses problems when needing to repot. Basically I had to very, very carefully cut away the net pot when repotting. I determined it wasn't worth the trauma to the roots to continue with phals in the oxygen dual core pots.
