Flooring choices have my head spinning

We are planning on replacing all the flooring on our first floor in conjunction with a kitchen remodel this spring. We currently have bamboo, tile and a laminate. The tile and laminate were here when bought the house and we had the bamboo installed in 2008.

I want to have a single flooring type on the whole 1st floor which is about 1000sq ft. We have a slab foundation, two kids and a dog. We have a budget of 10k for flooring and I’m stuck between an engineered hardwood and LVP. I’ve been to two different stores in two day and I’m no closer to a decision. I can’t tell what is good flooring by looking at it. I’m concerned about LVP sounding funny and water damage on the engineered hardwood.

If you had 10k budget for 1000 sq ft what type of flooring would go for? I can easily get into analysis paralysis especially on something I’m not very knowledgeable about and I’m getting there on this decision. Thanks for your help!

10k for 1000 sq. ft. is not enough for engineered flooring, just focus on LVP

@Kristin, thanks for your questions. These are great questions for many people to ask in a floor showroom. I want to congratulate you for knowing your budget and what you want to do. It is a really good starting point to plan and complete a successful flooring project. To make it simple, I would budget $5/sqft for floor material and $5/sqft for installation, tear out and subfloor prep. You may have to spend a little more at the end for Engineered wood floor than LVP. Your installation options are either floating or gluing down since you a slab subfloor. Good luck with your project! LVP doesn't sound funny if properly installed. Because it flexes very slightly and fits to the floor, it doesn't "clack" like laminate can. And you can use certain underlayments under LVP. LVP can also be glued down.
