I don't understand -- what part of the built-in isn't banquette?

the banquette and built-in are the same. See how on this one there is a wood top/seat? We were thinking of adding something like that and possibly a wood back...the rest being white. Or, should it just all be white?

I would do walnut or stained wood throughout and cushions. if possible recess the box portion, otherwise heel scuffs will happen, they will show / happen less on the wood that is poly'd.

I would for go the banquette seating and add two chairs that type of seating is just a pain to get in and out of unless you are five.

Nice table. Your question on the banquette you are building--white or walnut? Based on your table base, walls and multiple existing wood tones (floor, cabinets, blinds, beam et), I would definitely finish banquette in white. Absolutely you need cushion (consider leather for durability, resistance to stain etc) and I would add multiple square down pillows in textures for back comfort. Looks great! Love your barstools.

White banquette with cushions/couple pillows and walnut chairs that compliment your stools would tie it all together IMO. Pretty rooms.

We love our banquette. I think white would be the most versatile. Make sure you get Sumbrella type fabric for your cushions (no less than 3" thick) and pillows to prevent fading and shredding fabric.

Thanks for the responses, all. We are a family of 4. I know the concerns with mobility and banquettes, but our kids are younger and I'm pretty small myself. After a few years and we are sick of it, we can just remove it! I am leaning towards all white. I like the suggestion of walnut chairs.

White with cushions. Relatives of mine have banquettes with young children, they love them , can accommodate multiple smaller children & mobility not an issue for them ... they absolutely have no problem getting in & out of them!
