My new kitchen needs help with finishing touches!

Looking for some advice on what to do over the small kitchen window in new house. It is small so don't want to cover it- and completely private when looking out the window. It is screaming it needs something to me- i just don't know what. The space above the window is 18" high x 40" wide. Pretty much all white kitchen- which is open to dining area and living room. I went with all white subway tile – now I’m thinking maybe I should’ve done some sort of inlay behind the stove. I did have a decorative platter resting on the tile but became too much of a pain with having to move it every time I used the gas stove top. Want to do blue and greens as accent colors.
Also have this empty space between the refrigerator and sliding glass door. It is 26” wide x 24" deep. Again, looks like dead space that needs something. I am planning on getting a long narrow console/side board for behind the table. I love getting different ideas and suggestions from all the creative Houzzers! All ideas greatly appreciated. What should I do with space over the kitchen window, next to sliding door, and even though hubby will not like it, should I have the tile guy come back and add an inlay behind stove (I don’t even know if they can add tile on top of tile??)

In the space between your vent and cooktop, you can get some metal wall art that grabs your attention. That way you can clean it and replace it as desired. If you are careful about the weight of the item, you'll likely be able to use command hooks to hold it up. That is what I am going to do with my space to add some color.

I LOVE your window treatment but my window is very small. It is only 28 inches wide by 35 inches high. Think a window treatment there will cover it up too much... I also like the natural light coming in because house can be dark. We only get morning sun on the back of the house.

The first thing that popped in my head is remove those two decorative items over head above the stove area and something decorative and colorful on the wall space above the sink window. LOVE your all white kitchen. Maybe another colorful decorative piece you can hang on the backsplash area behind your cook top area or even simple like a sign that says something..??

@natesg. I love the two topiary plants!! How wide are they and where did you get them? Would love those, but think you probably have more space.

Maybe put the shade higher than the window so the window appears larger

very pretty. I would have tiled the entire spot around window. I like the way you have it, open. I'm thinking if you painted the wall above it a contrasting color, it would frame the white a bit better. you have white on white on white. put a color in there. dark blue, green, charcoal,,,,,,? or, a thin little shelf and a few plants that trail over the edge.

here is how a roman shade looks on a small window

you could also do a woven wood bamboo shade to bring in a little warmth.

Your new kitchen is beautiful. Maybe you can find a pretty trivet to hang over the stove (with command hooks as already suggested). It would look good, but also serve a useful purpose.
I second the idea of a Roman shade for over the sink.

Amhers that picture is not my kitchen, it’s just my inspiration for a future window treatment. I do think a Roman shade will still work even though your window is smaller.

Very nice kitchen! If you want to add blue and green as accents, then I'd definitely get a fabric valance for the window that has those colors in it and hang it in such a way that it just skims the glass, top and sides. There are a zillion styles. If you like the look of a roman shade or an eased roman, you can do that like an outside mount. Or you can do something with pleats, a flat valance with a shaped lower edge. Search houzz for valance in kitchens and you'll find lots of possibilities.

I would not worry about the backsplash as it's fine as it is. Rather I'd put the large decorative platter in the blue/green that you like above the cooktop where the star is now. Rather than the bowl in the corner that only shows its neutral side, get something that again reinforces the color theme...ceramic cookie jar or whatever. But be deliberate about the accessories and mindful of scale. You don't want a bunch of small things, but one or two impactful things that reinforce your color theme.

I would not worry about the space by the slider...let that be. It's part of the traffic area to get out the door and it's better left unobstructed. You'll want the focal point to be the wall behind table anyway, and the view out the slider.

So with that, make sure the art over the sideboard goes with your blue and green, and then add some of that color to the dining room table as well...be it a table runner, accessories on top, candles, whatever.

To make a color theme work, it needs to be sprinkled about, used at least 3 times in different places around the rooms.

    Your kitchen is lovely!

Here's how I handled my space-above-the-window in my (mostly) white kitchen.

You can also get a glimpse of my area between cabinets & back door (though admittedly much narrower than yours.) I added objets-de-art as well as some wall color to both areas.

    Kitchen turned out lovely.

The space above the window is a great place to hang something decorative. There's even a spot light there.

I too love your kitchen. It’s beautiful. I agree with the Roman shade idea at the window. Hang it high, almost touching the ceiling, and choose a colorful one.

No to doodads resting on the little shelf-thing above the range. Instead, get a colorful cheap print to prop there. A big green plant or arrangement in the middle of the island. Put away almost everything on the kitchen counters, including the dish rack. Add a small green potted plant or two near the window/sink. Done.

Rushing out so did this very quickly--here are a few versions of mounting a faux roman valence or woven wood/bamboo shade would like like. This is definitely what I would do in my kitchen. I think adding any decorative element above the window would emphasize how undersize the window is. By mounting something high--just past the upper outside moulding the window will appear much more balanced in the space and you will not lose any light/views. Beautiful kitchen by the way!
