TV Niche Next to Fireplace

I will be closing on this property and would like to make some changes before I move in (Aside from new paint) the area pictured is very troublesome. I have a 60” tv and will not be using the niche. Fireplace is on an angle. Should I move it? Tear out the niche? I am looking for suggestions on transforming this area. Thank you in advance for your suggestions.
