Two thoughts - First, the budget will need to be decided to help narrow down the cabinet selection. Custom cabinets - $30k and up. Semi custom - $5 to $20k, depending on what you do. Big box off the shelf - under $4k. And there is a huge difference in quality with each of these.

Second - durability - depending on your location, if new construction cabinets in your area are finished with nitro-cellulose or butyl lacquers, they will chip, even with water spots from your sink. So you have to consider what finish you want on your cabinets in addition to how much you want to spend. In our location, many re-modelers will install unfinished cabinets, then spray them on site with one of these products - leading to chipping within a few years. Factory finished cabinets usually have a better finish. But - start with your budget, then put your hands on cabinets in the price range you want.

custom cabinets. Doesn't have to be 30K. mine were 14,,,about 10 years ago. I have a lot of cabinets. if you have a smaller kitchen, and use a local cabinet maker, it would prob be the same as the Lowes cabs.

other than that, you aren't giving much info. wood cabinets are wood cabinets. plywood boxes, solid drawers, mdf door panels,,, are your kids going to climb on them? Get soft close doors, handles, and a good, prefinished top coat or paint finish. clean them frequently to avoid grease buildup. They should last 50 years.
