Bonus room Help with design

Hey guys-

Hapy New Year! Trying to redo a bonus room that has no function whatsoever. Plan to have a sectional for seating. TV for my 13 yr old to play his xbox and maybe an Air hockey table. Bought 7 ft air hockey table for kids but have not opened yet. Afraid it is too big for space. roomis 12x21. i have had some great feedback for this space but am looking for additional ideas.

I would appreciate any drawings, pics etc...i have no sense of design whatsoever so I would appreciate any additional help

Thanks!

It’s 2018. Start your spring cleaning now with donating everything in there. Once you can actually see the space, post a measured drawing and then you can see if a sectional will even fit. My bet is No.

Pick a starting point to build it back up. Nice floors are a good start. Interesting angles are a good start. Then a rug to pick some colors out of for everything else. As in a good color that isn’t red. For the whole room.

It seems like a small space. I could see you having a rug due to the hardwood floors, TV with stand, and a sofa. Keep it simple. I don't think a sectional would work. Definitely clear out the other things in the room. I would not do air hockey and a TV, it would have to be one or the other.

Yes, your previous post recommendations have also suggested a sectional with air hockey will not work--see prior floor plans.

But, you should measure yourself; you need to do some upfront work on your end. Since TV / gaming seems to be your primary/first goal, find a sectional you would be willing to buy that will fit thru the door and tape out on the floor. ID where the TV will / can go and arrange around that,

Clean out your space now and then figure out furniture/room needs.

Agree as previously recommended---paint all walls and ceiling the same. Keep color light; could do window area one shade darker for interest. Much easier to touch up paint then scrub and dark walls which you earlier wanted will show drywall chips much easier than lighter tones.

Yes I have some decisions to make. Desk is definitely going...train table and treadmill definitely going. Fish tank has to stay for my 13yr old bc it houses his turtles. Thanks for the input!

You said in the last thread that "Entry is small and I can’t get a traditional size couch through doorway." There's not much point in people here suggesting furniture that won't fit in the room. Or have you figured out a way to get a sectional in there?

I can order modular sectional pieces that will fit to make desired size. Thanks!

If you have a specific modular sectional in mind, let us know what size it is. Then people can give you more specific suggestions on the room arrangement.

Kids gaming on Xbox do not need a sectional. In fact, I think they would be much happier sitting on papasan chairs, a giant Lovesac/Monstersac, or floor level gaming chairs that are comfortable for them and very inexpensive. They want to be right up on the TV, not far back on a sectional.

Probably not but that’s what I want in there since it’s not just going to be the Xbox room. They can have some bean bags etc if they want to be on the floor. Trying to make it a family hangout room and I’m not going to sit in a bean bag...

I didn't know that gaming chairs were a "thing". I'm out of the loop!

Oh! A family hangout room-- I can see where you would want a couch for that. I thought from your first description it was a room just for the kids to game and play air hockey. Just for fun, here are some gaming chairs. Most of the kids we know sit fairly close to the TV (not always this close though!).

@partim- Was thinking something like this with an ottoman. 113” from either end to corner. With a storage ottoman...

Mrs S- those chairs are very neat! Thank you for sharing...I’ll have to check in to something like this.

That's a big sectional. At almost 9.5 ft wide and deep, it will take up a big chunk of your 21 ft x 12 ft room. I think most likely you'd put it in the corner byt the window, and the TV across from it. What would you put in the rest of the room closer to the door? The air hockey table or ?
