Hi,

Repot it in a well draining soil and most definitely in a pot with drainage holes and don't water much at all until you see leaf growth. Also, don't bury the bulb too deep, you can actually just sit it on top if the soil if there aren't any roots yet and add a little more soil at a later time when you're sure the bulb is actively growing. If you can give it some sun in the winter in a sunny window all the better. Yes, put the bulb outside when the weather is warm enough, they love it.

Good luck and before you repot it, peel off the loose layers and check the basal plate for rot then you are good to go!! More bulbs die of rot due to overwatering than being too dry, just keep that in mind.

Also ,when you see leaf grown you can start to fertilize with a half strength product like Miracle Grow (the weaker the better in the beginning) once a month and when the leaves are actively growing then once a week is OK if the bulb appears dry.

It already grew 3-4 HUGE leaves, they are easily 2 feet long each. It grew the leaves before the flower stalk. So I should just leave those leaves on there, but still repot it into better soil with drainage?

I've also figured out from reading here that I should have left at least 1/3 of the bulb above the soil, but I didn't, I buried it right up to the top, so I'll lift it in the pot when I repot it. Hopefully it grew roots in the last 2.5 months...

I think the pot itself will be OK, it's plastic and it looks like it has spots for drainage that will pop out if I push on them. And I think the pot is big enough, it has about 1/2 to 1 inch extra space between the bulb and the side of the pot.

The window isn't super sunny, but it's the best I have short of my LED grow lights for my cacti... It's definitely the brightest place in the house.

OK, if you've got leaves then you've got roots so go ahead and repot it and DON'T cut the leaves! You probably have a fairly good formed root ball by now so just lift the whole thing out, trying not to disturb the roots and your can start you fertilizing if you haven't already. Your plant should be just fine. Your bright window should be fine too for the winter.

New development. I just realized it looks like 2 of the 4 blooms are setting seed pods. Are these self fertile? Will I actually get seeds? Obviously if I want to keep the seeds I need to NOT cut off the flower stalk.... Part of me wants to get the seeds and try to plant them. Another part of me knows me all too well and says not to bother because even if they germinate, in 3-4 months you'll wonder what the heck you're going to do with all of these that you have no space for.

Welcome to the age old question and problem with too many seeds :-))) The good thing is that there are so many folks out there that would be more than happy to to grow some of your seeds.
