how many people will use this room? Will you have a TV in it? What kind of colours do you like? Do you already have furniture that goes into this room? And could you post more photos so that we can get an idea of the space? A floorplan with dimensions will help too.

What is room with arch wall. Is there a firepl? Take pic of other angles can't see room layout well.

The room is as you see it, no furniture as been purchased. The walls were white, just panted them that light brown color. There is a fire place. See the first pic, where the white mental is that's the fire place. Fire place wall color is light ashey blue. The arch is a window in the kitchen on the other side is where the kitchen sink is.

It looks like you will get a lot of natural light from the windows so when getting new lamps, get some fun tall ones with more soft lighting so give the room an inviting feeling.

To carolins, this will be our main living room so about 4-5 ppl will use it everyday. We will have a flat screen TV on top of the fire place. Will give you dimensions shortly. Like is mentioned above to began with the walls were white just got them painted that cream color.

Okay. So... is there no other space to put the TV? Like a wall next to the fireplace? Because TV over the fireplace is often too high for comfortable viewing.

Yeah there are cubbyholes on either side of the fireplace.

Oh, I would advise you to put the TV in one of those niches, I think the one to the right of the fireplace, the one next to the windows. If you put it on a swivel base or swivel arm, you can angle it towards the seating area.
You could put two sofas in an L-shape; one facing the fireplace, one facing the windows. Or a sectional if you prefer that.
One or two chairs in front of the window.

how about the fan, any suggestion on different idea then a fan?

No idea for the fan (yet), but I would beef up the fireplace mantle. It needs sides.

Here is a tutorial on purchasing a sofa/sectional.

Do not like blue wall. Paint 2 shades darker than other wall. Breaks up room too much. In niche by firepl add thick dark wood shelves 3. Crete & Barrel has them. Add earth tone color pots. Keep uncluttered and simple. Add sectional that will float in room facing TV. A charcoal gray in fabric or leather put a chaise on right side. On other side by windows put 2 large swivel chairs side by side. In front of sofa very large zebra round or square ottoman. Can you sit at arch to kitchen? If so add two modern bar stool. In a teal Or turquoise color add turquoise as pillows. Chairs can be a print graphic with lots of colors. As I said in other post simple panels on windows match to walls Or a shade darker. All accent should be 2 colors only. I like the teals with brown though orange would work to might try in chairs print. You might need palms to fill in corners and art but can't see other wall space. Keep simple low sleek lines when buying furn.

Fan can be more contemporary in a stainless. Drop alittle lower. To high to do any good.

Paint inside the niches a accent color. Orange teal or whatever you like then add shelves. Nothing on mantel after TV goes up hang as low as as you can in fact just let rest on mantel. Hard to look up to watch TV.

On fan no showing light like it does now. Good to have light but make it a under globe type.

I would keep all shades open. All the time. Especially the high one why close them no one can see in? Would give your room a whole different look. Blinds not working.

In the first pic on the left side nich, there is a gold wall light. Those lights are all aroud the houe which i think are very outdated. What can i change it out to? any Suggestions?

If their budget permits, I would change the blinds to shades, and use some kind of valance to hide the arch. That would give a more contemporary feel. Whoever suggested to keep the blinds open all the time has never lived in Texas. I used to go to model homes and get ideas for window treatments. If you can find one with contemporary style. I agree with Travisinteriors about everything. Especially the niches next to the fireplace. You could make the shelves from thick rustic wood and beef up the mantle to match. I like contemporary mixed with rustic. Maybe make some of the wood pieces in the room heavy industrial/rustic to offset the cream sofa.

I wasn't the one who suggested that and I think it depends on whether you like the colour or not. If you like it, keep it.

Should I add a rug to beak up the cream of the sofa n cream of the carpet?

A rug would add another dimension to the room and would look great but not necessary. It depends on your budget.

I like all the Idea travisinterious gave but with his suggestions if I have cream leather sofa can I go with same suggestions he gave.

You can use anything with cream. All suggestions will still work. All gold fixture should be replaced with brush nickel, incl all faucets. And door hardware. Much more updated. Your chairs can be anything. Keep modern with a colorful design. Then use color from chairs for pillows on sofa. Use solid panels on windows, in cream. A woven fabric for Texas would work.

I don't like rug over rug. Never looks right could not bring up sofa. So not sure how to arrange furn. Is sofa L shape or have a chaise? Need big 36-40" coffee table I like square with L shape or round if curved. Paint inside of niche teal and use that color in chairs and pillows. Buy thick shelves Crete and Barrel. Just need 2 each side. Look for art oil big. Add teal, white and tan pots to shelves not to many keep uncluttered. Use different heights.

Hi, been looking at those great windows. You should be getting a professional that can help you with these. It's going to difficult to do anything over this site without actually being in room. I think very dramatic floor to ceiling panels on all wall space between windows. Would be the way to go. They will have to be custom because of height. Get a referral, the windows not the furn will be the big difference in this room. Anyone on Houzz know of anyone in Dallas, or Irving Texas? She could use some help. I like the chairs I think Caroline posted. You might go a black and cream look with a touch of teal as accent. Teal may work on windows, using balls in brushed nickel instead of rods .

Remove all mini blinds from windows under panels add pleated blinds with remote control. So you can open them up for a view or just some great light.

Okay, I will go that rout. I do love the chairs that Caroline posted n was thinking that instead of what u had suggested. Yes the windows r the biggest focal point for this room so I have been looking for window treatment places in Dallas area. I have not found anything yet.

Can u suggest me on anything for the bedroom? That's the other post I have. I'm going to be here until Friday so I'm trying to get whatever I can done while I am here.

Any one knows good window treatment place in Dallas?

I would start with asking friends about window treatment places in Dallas. Depends on what you have decided on. Lowes and HD have some custom type treatments. Sometimes fabric places have the cards of custom window designers too. Whether they will give you a recommendation is another thing. But if you are going to go the custom route, I would ask to see pics of other rooms they have done and get more than one estimate.
